SeparateFields() for 576p to 576i not working?

I have a DMR-EZ49V VCR (HDMI Out) and a HDMI Capture device. This workflow only allows me to capture the source at 576p (Lossless).

I understand that the Panasonic is simply bobbing to 576p so I should be able to undo the deinterlace losslessly?

I've tried using SeparateFields().SelectEvery(4, 0, 3).Weave() but I'm noticing two things:

1) It appears to work in that I can see frame-by-frame that the combing is there, but then at certain points later in the test capture, the combing disappears, even on frames with motion.

2) To confirm this inconstant behaviour I recapped the same scene, ran it through the same script, and unlike on the first capture where I get the combing, on the second I don't!

Attachment 1. Here's the 1st capture, showing two consecutive frames, at a point that shows a successful merging of fields.

Attachment 2. Here's another area of the 1st capture where no interlacing shows (even over multiple frames of movement)

Attachment 3. Here's the same frame from the 1st and 2nd capture after merging fields. One successfully interlaced, the other shows no interlacing over any of the frames:

...I've tried (4,1,2) as well.

That VCR upscales to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p for HDMI. You're trying to uncook an egg.

But the VCR also has S-Video output, so get an analog capture card and use that instead of the HDMI capture card.

Hey

Attachment 15319

From the manual.

Supports 576i/p from HDMI. My capture device doesn't support interlaced, but the VCR isn't upscaling, I have it set to 576p and that's what I'm getting. I've ordered a device that will accept the 576i input. Thanks

Ok, that's on page 66 of the manual. I was looking at page 71 which doesn't list the SD resolutions.

If 576i through HDMI is selected then the VCR shouldn't do any bob deinterlacing.

Yeah, it shouldn't, but it does a handshake with the connected device and greys out the options it doesn't support. In my case the crappy capture device doesn't support interlaced at all, so the Panny will only let me select 576p. I've returned it now and have a more expensive device on the way that I've confirmed supports 576i capture :)

Thanks for your help.
