=> argh, won't work since the ball would be filtered too and disappear in some cases :)

Try:
  • Start Hybrid
  • Load the sample.avi
  • Set 'Filtering->(De-)Interlace/Telecine->Overwrite input scan type to' to 'top field first'
  • Enable 'Filtering->(De-)Interlace/Telecine->QTGMC Vapoursynth->Bob'
  • Enable 'Filtering->Compare view' (lower right corner)
  • Enable 'Filtering->Synch auto refresh' (lower right corner)
  • Open the 'Vapoursynth Preview' and keep it open so that you see what happens (lower right corner)
  • Enable "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->UI->Show 'Masked'-controls"
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Sharpen->aWartpSharp2' and set 'Depth' to '16' and enable 'Chroma'
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Sharpen->aWartpSharp2->Masked'
  • Set 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Sharpen->aWartpSharp2->Masked', Mask to 'LimitMask' and Limit to '110' (invert is enabled)
  • Enable "Filtering->Vapoursynth->Misc->UI->Show 'Apply only to'-controls"
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Frame->Stabilize->ReduceFlicker' and set 'Strength' to '3' and enable 'aggressive'
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Frame->Stabilize->ReduceFlicker->ApplyOnlyTo', enable 'Range' and set it to "[30- 535]"
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Frame->Stabilize->SmallDeflicker' and set 'Preset' to 'aggressive' and enable 'CNR' and 'ZSmooth'
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Frame->Stabilize->SmallDeflicker->ApplyOnlyTo', enable 'Range' and set it to "[30- 535]"
  • Enable 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->MCTemporalDenoise'
  • Set 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->MCTemporalDenoise->Setting' to 'very high'
  • Set 'Filtering->Vapoursynth->Sharpen->aWartpSharp2->Masked' , Mask to 'LimitMask' and Limit to '150', disable 'invert'.
Note the 'Range' restrictions are there to not filter close-ups that strong, so if the part you filter has no close-ups these restrictions are not needed.

Ps.: Attached a sample encode.
PPs.: Yes, one can do more to filter this clip, but that is open for personal preferences.

Is there any way to make the ball more clearly visible? Because the amoeba effect is gone but ball is dissapearing :( Thanks

If noise reduction only makes the ball harder to see then best not use the noise reduction. We live with the noise.

It's the same with the audio. If noise reduction makes it harder to hear what is being said, we live with the noise.

This is why it's important to try and capture the best signal we can off the tapes. The best signal, the least noise. This is what the pro's do, or should do.

You can use lower denoising settings, try to mask the denoising,...

My tennis matches was recordererd by my friend on Panasonic nv sd 20 vcr. I have question. This wiggling amoeba effect will be smaller if I will be using Panasonic vcr instead of JVC or Sharp vcr I own? Thanks. I am asking because I have very large number of tapes to digitilize.

Sorry, I have no clue in that regard (I never capture stuff.), but other users probably can and will help. :)

My tennis recordings were made on Panasonic nv SD 20 by my friend. I have couple hundred of cassette to digitalize. Mostly LP. The sample recording with this wiggling amoeba effect was captured on jvc hr s7722. I have tried capturing another match and there is the same amoeba effect. Is there any VCR which is capable of eliminating this effect? Maybe some Panasonic with tbc or Sharp s2000? Thanks.

Maybe passthrough with Panasonic es 10 or 15 could help?

Hi, I have transferred my sample SP recording with my new VCR (Blaupunkt RTV 950) and I think that there it's an improvement over JVC VCR. I am uploading sample file. I have denoised it with neat video demo in virtualdub and then transferred to Hybrid and deinterlaced and resized. Has it been done correctly? Thanks.
