JVC HR-S7500 vs. Panasonic NV-HS830 - best VCR to use?
 

Which one is better for converting VHS to digital files/DVD's? I would apprecciate your opinion.

Neither is a high-end unit, but both are above-average performers. No line tbc in either model. It's up to you, they're both decent but the JVC would have more problems with old or damaged tapes, and if you have any 6-hour tapes you won't like the way the JVC plays them.

HS960 is same mechanism as the HS830 but from the previous generation. The HS960 does give better picture quality than the 830 and has filters too, however in my opinion the HS950 from the generation before the 960 is at least as good and has better tape transport. Also the HS930 is worth remembering as it is the 830 with the 960 filters and TBC.

The 960 has both TBC and DNR functions you mentioned in my other message, unlike the 830 which doesn't have. How can they give the same results?

sorry i haven't read the message well. you said that 960 is better than the 830. As for the 950 i have already searched for it before ending up with 960 but i only found one piece which was way too expensive for me. Thank you for your time and guidance. You have been really helpful. :)

The NV-HS860 is the minimum 800 model, going off memory.

For PAL, I think the JVC HR-S7500 lacks TBC.

JVC vs Panasonic generally depends on your source tapes -- especially recording mode. So when asking questions about a VCR, be very sure to tell us as much details as you can about the tapes that you plan to use in it.

Thank you all for your help! TBC and DNR were unknown to me until now. I was looking for a vcr (any vcr) to digitalize my tapes (common E-180/240 PAL ST's) and had no idea what/where to look for. Then i visited this site which was recommended by a friend of mine and suddenly my search has become more specific. I'm biding for a panasonic (included in your guide) at the moment with all these functions that will give the best possible quality to my vhs, thanks to you. My tapes were recorded on a vintage 80's panasonic so i guess this panasonic will serve me well.

Note that the 1996 Panasonics listed are NTSC model numbers. They did have PAL cousins with similar numbers.
