AVI to Youtube?

Hi, Ive managed to capture my first vhs with Virtualdub but the AVI file is 54gbs! (YUV 4.22 720x576)

My question is how can i get this on Youtube? Is there a preferred software to convert the file without losing to much quality?

Ive had a read through over relevant threads but i cant see a particular software suggested.
