What do you convert your VHS, S-VHS, Hi8 home videos to?

Hi to all,

First post here. :)

I have seen lots of guides and topics about converting old cassette home videos to DVD.
I haven't had a DVD player since 2009; I watch videos on my laptop and nowadays ondemand (Netflix, etc...).

How many of you would still convert a VHS, S-VHS, Hi8, you name it, to a DVD as opposed to only archiving it in the PC?

Cheers.

I plan on doing both. Gotta get a new PC first though. As well as some more external Hard drives. Finally got a new job, so the money issue isn't a problem anymore, finding the time to record is lol.

I archive to both.

Which format are you capturing your videos with?

It depends on who gets a final copy -and- how it's planned to be watched.
- Distribution is obviously a disc.
- Family is a disc.
- Me only is external drives, watched with a WDTV on an HDTV.

Referring to MPEG-2 based content here, not streaming.

To DVD, + lossless HDD archive for important stuff. I also do some SD BluRay, but since I know only one person other than myself who owns a BluRay player (and I have a ton of Italian relatives!), I make DVD's for others. Transfers of their old tapes go to DVD and a backup DVD.

If you no longer have a first-rate disc player and don't buy retail, it must have been a long time since you've seen a first-rate digital job on a well-calibrated TV. I couldn't live that way. But everyone has their druthers. Makes the world go 'round.
