DotEasy Web Host review - is it any good?
Does anybody know if Doteasy is a good web host?
|
DotEasy is one of those companies that has two kinds of feedback.
1. Lots of really bad negatives -- unethical billing, excess downtime, theft of domains, refusing to unhold refund policies, etc. This tends to be very detailed feedback, and very negative. 2. Glowing reviews -- but they're all fake. DotEasy offer $70+ commissions, so lots of fake "review" sites list them trying to cash in. The sites just want money, not to give sage advice, and they care NOTHING about you! The payment is not enough to be in the fake "top 10" (almost always EIG hosts, Godaddy, Yahoo, and 1&1), but it tends to be in the less common "top 20" type lists (top 50, 100, etc). You'll notice the "feedback" is always fluff, not very specific, and does little more than repeat the sales collateral (sales documents) with "spin" (rewrite just enough to change words up). Very often, just adding words to sales plans. I would NOT use this host. There are better ones. You have two option: (1) I'll help you find a good host that fits your needs (2) We can host you at digitalFAQ. To date, we've not been a "host", but we do have some hosting clients, and have for 10+ years now. Just let me know what you want/need, and I'll see what can be done. From what I remember, all of you sites are HTML only, so that would be a perfect fit. Either way, you can do better that that. :) _________________

Hey KP, long time no speak.
The reason for my question was so I could get some professional backup and knowledge about this web host. My client's wife was told about doteasy and she wants to move his site to them because they're in Canada and she wants to "learn how to mange the site," and she doesn't want to call overseas when she has any questions, plus she thinks that they're being overcharged since they're paying in euros. The site has been hosted by EuroVPS which has great customer service and support, and there hasn't been one problem with them at all. I did some intelligence gathering and came up with the same negative feedback and fake reviews that you mentioned. I talked with doteasy through live chat and over the phone and yes, they do have good customer service but they charge $9.95 a month or less, $1.50 a month for automated daily site backup (recommended), $6.95 for spam & email virus protection, $5.95 mailpro email service, select photo gallery and web form are free but you can upgrade for more money (all are optional). Now, I told my client's wife all of this but she's still adamant about changing the web host. The ONLY reason I'm trying to help is because her husband (my client) is a real good person and I don't want him to get stressed out from both ends if his wife goes with doteasy. But in reality, I can only do so much and it's not up to me. Can you send me the information about the hosting you guys offer at digitalFAQ? Sounds interesting. |
If she insists on a Canadian host, then she at least needs to use a good one! Look at crocweb.com instead.
There is NOT many good hosts located in Canada. (And isn't that price of DotEasy in $USD anyway?) Switching from EuroVPS to DotEasy would be -- to be blunt -- completely stupid. There's no good reason to do this. I can pretty much guarantee that a host like that will: 1. Slow down the sites, thank to overload servers (see also http://www.digitalFAQ.com/guides/web...rs-hosting.htm) 2. Have billing problems, as per horrible feedback online. 3. Indeed, it will have "nice techs" ... that you have to keep asking for help, because they keep breaking things on their end. 4. In some cases, the security is crap at the big hosts, so the site may be hacked. 5. Be pressured into "upgrading" the account because of "using too many resources" (often lies because the $4 "unlimited" plan is a come-on). FYI: I have never had a phrase start with "my client's wife" that ended well. :P I'll forward our hosting info to you via PM later today. Thanks! :) |
That's true, Canada is very limited when it comes to good hosts.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the pricing being in $USD but you can pay in $CDN as long as you don't mind the BS exchange rate that can change at any time. Of course it would be completely stupid. But, let me reiterate that I can only do so much and it's not up to me. Quote:
Yes, please forward me the hosting info, I look forward to it. Thanks KP |
Hey KP,
While I wait for your info about your hosting services, can you give me some info about Arvixe? |
I decided to write it up online, in case others want to know more also. Not email or PM it.
But I'm not going to make it public yet. So it's in the semi-private Premium Member forum (and you can access, as Premium Member). Read more : http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/prem...ing-plans.html Arvixe is an excellent host for Windows and Linux both. I don't want to go into it now -- need to write a detailed review for them; it's on the to-do list! -- but suffice it say, they've done some great things this year. If you want a $5-10/monthly type of shared Win/Lin host, that's good one. It's one of the few "unlimited" hosts that this site suggests, as they don't have backdoor "gotchas" that forces users to upgrade. We've been testing/using it since November 2011. |
Thanks for the info.

Adult site are against the ToS for Site5.
It's okay Arvixe. |
I actually live chatted with site5 today and they told me that they do allow adult sites as long as there's no pornography.
I just finished reading their Tos and it doesn't allow adult sites like you mentioned in your reply. I guess the person I live chatted with got things a little mixed up. |
Usually "adult sites" means porn.
Non-pornographic sites should be fine. As much as I like Site5, I also like Arvixe, and I'd just assume use them to be 100% in the clear (no risk of suspension). When it comes to the legal language of a ToS, I'd just assume err on the side of "definitely okay" as opposed to "probably okay". |
