How to force cPanel to backup entire server from root

cPanel doesn't have a convenient "backup now" button in WHM, and the one available in cPanel is only per account. There's no way to easily backup an entire server on-demand.

To backup the whole server, enter root, and type:

Code:

/usr/local/cpanel/bin/backup --force
That's it. :congrats:

Check the destination server after a few minutes, and you should see the new dated folder with content being written.

WARNING:

This is also helpful if you want to have a special "hidden" server (no credentials stored anywhere in cPanel) for occasional backups. Add the destination server, backup, and then remove it again. Remember that cPanel "pushes" backups -- it does not pull them. So if somebody infiltrates the primary server, they can access the backup as well.

This is something that admins need to keep in mind!
