Isn't that the one we started with? :D

CQ mode with the new/newer GOP and beta-1a is definitely better than CQ_VBR with the same GOPs and matrix. Question is: is it better than CQ_VBR with the original GOP and matrix? ;)

Oh no, no no, please  Is this ever going to reach a stable level :hammer:
I will test that, but for the next revision :!:
I think we have a very solid quality from 352x240 all the way to 528x480 and even 704x480 if necessary. So the question is: "Do I cut the final parameters as they are, and post all templates with the new updates :?: :?: "

Yep.

Revising parameters and templates. I'll post in the "What's happening" in about half hour, after I upload all templates.

Yes!! :D There are some who are confused and want, for now, a stable
set of Templates. We need to be updated with the process from GripFit
to Tmpgenc. The rest is the same (e.g. Headac3he, bbMPEG, and
VCDEasy.). Oh!! I forgot about the SansGrip's new file predictor
(manual) method. We need to catch-up to the latest and greatest stuff.
It would be nice to know what you'll be working on in the future (e.g.
filters to target I, P, or B frames for compression). Or, a return to
solving Gibbs, or maybe a Guide forum or .... the list just grows. :D

Some? I think we're all confused. I know I am :? ;).

As far as that goes, I think it's a good way of getting the most accurate prediction possible given the current state of affairs. However, I'm not sure it's best for manual use. I designed it mainly for inclusion in the next KVCDP.

Tell me about it. You should see my to-do list 8O ;).

For the LATEST template (beta-1a, 1-24-2-1-24), do we need to check "detect scene change"??

No :!: . It should be "unchecked" on all templates.

I think the next step is some basic organized documentation ( To SansGrip: I feel the same way you do about documenting :x ) so people have an idea of the complete process. Now that SansGrip has released GripFit, it makes it REALLY easier to encode once a bare .avs is created.

Kwag,

Will the DVD templates and the 528x576 Mpeg2 template be updated too? Or are these not suitable for the latest enhancements.

So the only way to really improve and/or remove Gibbs is to correct
Tmpgenc encoder. Hey Frankencoder, where are you!!!!! :)

-black prince

AFAIK, Gibbs is the result of quantization in the high frequencies.

Jellygoose 01-13-2003 05:53 AM

:D Ok, ok guys...

I guess we're all VERY satisfied with the results of the last month... I guess kwag should close this and the other threads that created this great brainstorming progress in a couple of days!
As for me, I already saved all the pages (38 wow!!) and love to read through them, to see you all having excellent ideas, and of course testing, testing, testing...

As for me I think all this was definetely worth the effort...

THE NEW KVCD v2 ROCKS!!!!

guys I really can't imagine where we will be in one year!!
This forum has developed to my favorite site, and I still think it's amazing and impressive that people from so many different countries share their knowledge and experiences in video encoding...
that's kinda like Captain Planet, where everybody gives a piece of power and in the end there's a SUPERHERO!!

Hi Jim,

The new BETA-1a Notch matrix applies perfectly well to the KDVD templates. I only tested the KDVD Half D-1 with the new matrix, and I liked the results. I'll do more tests today, and if everything works ok, I'll update those too. The same applies to the SKVCD and the KVCDx3 (MPEG-2). They should also work better with the new matrix. If you want to do some tests on the DVD templates, just change the number of Bs from 3 to 2 and make the matrix changes.

Hey thanks Jellygoose :D,

I forgot to make a note on "Version 2" on the download page. I'll do that in a while
Let's see, in a year, probably taking all the techniques we've learned here and fitting 10+ hours of perfect DVD quality on a DVD(+-)R
To me, KVCD.Net is like a candy store. I chew on it all day

Hi gonzopdx,

Did you use prediction on that sample :?: Because I find it a little on the expensive side for 6.8MB and only 35 seconds. It should be less than ~3MB for that time :!:
Or was this made to target 3 CD-Rs :?:
