Please describe the process. How did you remove it, step by step. The instructions on Symantec's site are very straight-forward so there should be no problems.

Try it :)

hello,

if you have win xp, you have to disable the system restore for a while ( http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/sfc_dis1.shtml ) and use the safe mode, of course.
after that, you can try with a2 free ( http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ ) or trojan remover ( http://www.simplysup.com/ )
good luck.

Kwag,

I assume you referring to AVG Free version 7.300. I like Antivar
and wonder what made you switch. I'm always on the look out
for a better Anti-virus program, especially a free one. :)

Hi BP :)

A friend called me the other day and told me to try AVG again, because they fixed a lot of things like speeding it up, and also he had some virus that Antivir didn't catch, but the latest version of AVG did 8O
So I tried it, and I liked it a lot :)
Specially the new E-Mail integration, where you now see a pop-up window when it's receiving your pop3 E-Mail.
And the new control panel is much better, with many more options than the previous version.
I think they are now way ahead of Antivir

Hello:

I just downloaded AVG, and it appears to be working fine. \During the installation, I received a message stating that there were 5 instances in which the Microsoft firewall did not allow some registry keys to entered. I un-installed AVG, closed XP and Microsoft Antispyware programs, but received the same messages; however, the program appears to be working OK...... Any ideas of why I received such message?

Thanks

Otto

Where did you find a free version ? There is a trial version on the site, but no free one.

Hi

I'm also using AVG as scanner+resident and antivir as scanner only (one time a week), and I like better the new avg. (smaller update, and it seems that it detect more virus. Acces to scan log is easier).

Hey, well thanks for the info :D I tried AVG and I really like it.

1) Does anybody know what is the best spyware/adware program?

2) The best firewall?

I have Norton Internet Security, but since their AntiVirus wasn't the best I'm wordering if there is something better out there.

3) Can you have two antivirus programs installed at the same time in your computer?

I've heard that it is not good to have more than one.

fabrice 01-27-2005 03:03 PM

Hi,

I'm using ad-aware and spybot to regularly clean my PC, because both don't detect the same things!

As firewall, I'm using Sygate Personal Firewall, after using during a long time Outpost. I love this firewall, and I won't change it! :)

And about the 2 antivirus, I'm using only one as resident, and the other one as a weekly scanner. The problems comes when you use 2 residents 'shields'. In my case, I don't have any problem using Antivir as weekly scanner only and avg as daily scanner+resident shield.

hello lukuid,

I don't think that "the best antivirus/firewall/antispy..." really exist.
There are "worst" but the best is the one you feel comfortable with it and that's all.
I have sygate, Etrust antivirus, sometimes proxomitron and system safety monitor (but rarely), spybot + ad-aware (the both are complementary) hijackthis, startup monitor...
from time to time, I dl an anti-trojan (a2 free, pest patrol, tauscan, etc...) and make a scan.
but I never find anything

LeeKuid 01-29-2005 03:08 PM

Thanks for all the info :D guys, but it seems like I have a different problem now :?

My friend told me that his computer wasn't working right, so I ran AVG and it showed that it had about 13 viruses 8O

Well, it deleted 11 of them but didn't do anything with the other two. Then I tried to run AVG again and again I even tried it in Safe-mode, DOS-mode and nothing. It didn't detect the other two viruses that it had detected before.

Now, I know that the viruses are still there because it won't let us go into the internet. We contacted his ISP and they told us that everything was running right in their side so it should definitely be a virus or a worm.

1) How can the viruses hide or not get detected anymore?

2) Does anybody now what to do in this case?

I also download AVG's latest updates and still nothing

Dialhot 01-29-2005 03:29 PM

In the link provided above, dl and use DOS version of Fprot.

But you must boot from a floppy disc or a bootable CD-RW than you did before you had the virus (to be sure to have a virus free system)

LeeKuid 01-29-2005 03:59 PM

Hey, Phil I followed this liked (http://www.wilders.org/free_tools.htm) like you told me.
Then I clicked where it says (F-Prot for DOS) but I didn't find it do know exactly where it is or does it have a different name, thanks :)
