Cleaning up computer that has really slowed down. Now getting this error message. How can I find out what's causing it?

When exactly does this happen ?

Was happening constantly. Finally figured out it was probably caused by Adobe searching for updates. Purged my start programs and put in only the ones I need. Think I got it right; at least the message has disappeared. :D

Thanks.

Does the number of items I have in taskbars on my screen affect overall speed? :?:

Have run Ad-Aware, ClamWin, AVG, CCleaner and Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. Have defragged drives.

By taskbar you mean tray (right part of the taskbar) ?

The more app in the tray, the more app need to be ran at boot + the more app using CPU and memory. So yeah, this slow down more or less the system !

Most of app that appear in the tray can be deactivated in their option (look for "start automatically with windows" or "autostart" and uncheck it).

For remaining process, I suggest you "regcleaner", or other app that allows to clean the startup apps.

No, user taskbars, like on side of screen.

I have used Eusing Free Registry Cleaner to remove everything from the startup folder and replaced with the couple ones I need (virus, firewall). It's a pretty nice freeby.

In the "Quick launch" so. Its just a toolbar and the icons are just short links. You can have has much as you want. I even use to set my taskbar on 2 rows, with the "Quick Launch" on the first and the task running on the second. My quick launch has currently 36 icons.
