Just set the notch matric, put the encoding in mpeg2, use 3:2 pulldown during playback if you plan to do a 23.976 source (or progressive if it is 29.970 yet), and set the GOP to 1-5823-2-1-18 (and not 24 as you did for KVCD). That's all. Edit : set also the target format to 16:9 if you want is anamorphic or 4:3 if you want a letterboxed one And of course it's better for your script to generate a 704*480 video or a 352*480. Quote:

Thanx Phil
you didn't answer this exact question but i was refering to this Quote:
thats all thanx again buddy |

I use CQ=90 anytime (no need to use CQMatic), long GOP (that means 24) but I do that because my player handles it, and anything else is the same that I always used for KVCD. THAT INCLUDES the resolution (544*480) and min = 64, max = 2500. But before, you should DL my samples disc to test your standalone if you didn't do that yet :!: ed2k://|file|KDVD.Standalone.Compatibility.Samples.-.NTSC.rar|64251392|57A749FB506510F09D36506180B2730 C|/|sources,213.203.89.90:4692|/ And note that this is for avi sources ! Not for DVD. Actually you can use it also for DVD but I really don't see any reason to do that). |
Phil,
what means "ed2k" in the link that you posted ? :? |
Thanx Phil

@ dialhot
please help me again... i'm trying to put 5 episodes of 40minutes each of The Dead Zone. i recorded theses shows on my pvr. resolution is 704x480 bitrate viewer says avg 2500 max 6500. i tried lots of combinations with settings suggested on this forum... is t possible to get MPEG2 704x480 compliant with best quality and fit 200 minutes of material ??? you suggested me min 300, max 4500. but that produce files too big ! what is best for me, vbr or cq vbr. the episodes have lots of action scenes ! when nothing moves, the quality is there, but at the time someting is moving, lot of blocks... Thanks again for your time. |

dvd 4.7 go...
for sure ! |

You should better apply the 60fps -> 24fps method describe by Kwag in the optimal script section of the forum. This way you will have less bits to encode, and the quality will be better. BTW you say that the file is too big but did you do any file size prediction ? You must use CQ mode for this and use CQMatic to find the correct CQ to apply. |
i know it's too big cause i encoded files many times using different settings...
btw dialhot, is it possible to speak french ? cause i see you live in france ? i'm from montreal, quebec. |

ok, next time i will start a thread there...
but for my needs, maybe i have to go with only like 4 episodes per disk... it's like 160 minutes and it's will be the same amount of video that the company put on their released dvds. (we can buy it, but only english tracks) i recorded in french, so ! i want to know, if a choose something like 300-4500 cq 90, will it be the best quality, or since i use more then 3000max, can the notch matrix be inadequate ? do you recommand using the standard dvd mpeg2 template from tmpgenc ? |
Quote:
But did you tried this famous "60fps to 24fps" method ? This permit to reduce by 20% the amount bits to encode. And 20% of 5 episode equals 1 episode ! Quote:
But with 704*480 for sure you can't use blindly a CQ of 90 if you absolutly need to control the total size of your videos. And this is your case ! You want to put 5 episode per disc so you must use CQMatic to find the correct CQ. 90 is too much for that ! Second : the max of 4500 is allowed ONLY because we use the Notch matrix. Wihtout it, the result will be awfull. Quote:

at first, i was saying me if it was not better to encode with the standard templates then use dvd-shrink ! ?
but yeah, considering this size of this forum, i'm pretty sure your notch matrix and gop size will definitely be the solution. since i use tmpgenc 3.0, cqmatic doesn't work. plus, my files don't open in version 2.5 so 3.0 is the way. i was using mainconcept encoder before tmpgenc 3.0, but their deinterlacing don't support "double framerate" and i need that cause if i deinterlace with only one field, it's jerked !!! and if i don't deinterlace the files, they play very well in many dvd players...except my xbox...it seems the deinterlacing module of the xbox is crap ! (cause people at dishrip group in yahoo groups, say to burn files directly...and i'm already able to put 4 episodes on a dvd....but i had the deinterlacing problem of my xbox + i want (if possible ) to fit 5 episodes on a dvd without loosing quality...or losing too much quality |

2) Use Avisynth. You're not supposed to load the files directly in TMPGEnc, you're supposed to use Avisynth to frameserve them. |
