all I wanted to know is how you intergrate the kvcd templates with dvd2svcd. Added that info to the matrice ini file and changed the vbv to 40, is there anything else I need to do?

Anyone know the correct settings for the 'Encoder' tab of DVD2SVCD? Most other panels are obvious enough, but this one is slightly different compared to the setting names in TMPGEnc to match Kwag's KVCD template.

For example, the KVCD LBR template uses CQ_VBR with a quality setting of 22. DVD2SVCD offers the following: Frames pr spread, Offset CQ Value, and Spread, as well as a Use fixed CQ Value checkbox. What do we set these to to emulate the various KVCD templates?

Also, Kwag... Number of P Frames in GOP is capped at 100. Is this sufficient? I know you use some number that is 'too high' as a signature, but I forgot what value was 'high enough'.

You must use the same number as MAX number of frames in the P's. Not 5823 ( signature). My signature makes DVD2SVCD throw up :lol: , and sets the value of P's to 0, causing a blocky mess of an mpeg 8O . So if you are using one of the PLUS template, where the MAX frames per GOP is set to 48, go ahead and also set the P's to 48. So it will read 1,48,3,1,48 and if using the LBR, it will read 1,15,2,1,15

Hi Shaq,

Just run TMPEG and load any of the KVCD PLUS templates. Exit TMPEG and then look at your .INI file. It will be set with our Q. Matrix.

Also, it appears you put the CQ Quality value in the slot marked "Offset CQ Value". DVD2SVCD will then do a test encoding at CQ_VBR 22 and work its way up or back to fit it on the number of CDs desired. Seems to be pretty cool! I think I blew it last night and told dvd2svcd to target 2 CDs, so I will try again and force it to target a single CD (I'm using the LBR template).

If you don't want it to perform tests, you can check the Use Fixed CQ Value, and it'll use whatever you place in the Offser CQ Value field.

I still don't understand the purpose of "Frame pr spread" and "Spread", so I've been leaving them at default.

Doesn't VCD require that the frame rate be 29.97 for NTSC. My DVD player won't play right unless the setting are 352x240 <1150 and frame 29.97?

I am trying to convert an AVI that has a frame rate 23.97 with AVI2VCD and TMPG. How can I MAKE AVI2VCD CHANGE THE FRAME RATE TO 29.976.

I made one film with DVD2SVCD, was very simple, but the size was 20% larger from that I obtain with the old TMPGEnc way....

I just ran a 2 hour AVI movie through DVD2SVCD emulating the KVCD LBR parameters as closely as I could. DVD2SVCD has the ability to 'guess' at the correct CQ_VBR value to use to maximize diskspace usage, which appears to follow the method outlined here in the forums.

For this particular movie, 1:55:50 in length, I downsampled the AC3 stream to 192kbps 44.1KHz Surround 2, and the movie was resized to 352x240. DVD2SVCD calculated that it could go as high as CQ_VBR 27.15 and still fit a 800MB CD.

Final filesize: 747MB. Woo! It looks great in media player, but have yet to do a real playback in the DVD player.

BBmpeg tab make sure VCD and VBR are checked also make sure force muxed rate is set to 0

Set frames per spread to 80 and spread to 60. The test encodes will run a bit longer but size will be accurate.

One thing in my mind :
When I'm using the 120 minutes on one cd template, if the film is 4X3 I can put much less time per cd. But because the encoding is made with TMPGEnc, I use the cut/joiner option in TMPGenc tools and make 2 mpeg's with less than 800Mb;
But now we are using in DVD2SVCD an method that we tell in advance hom many CD's we will get, based in the time of film...

By example, now I'm making The Green Mile with subtitles, and to achieve better image I force 4x3, even if is 16x9. Sure, this will make at least 2 Cds with the 120Minutes template, but my doubt is IF DVD2SVCD will make this film right, because if it use my information of time ( i use 0-120 minutes = 1CD of 800, and from 120 to 240 = 2 cd's of 800 min) the resize will make things very different.

Ok, the film Green Mile was perfectly made, but on strange thing :
The total size was 814 + 578 = 1393 Mb ( whitout credits ), that was 130 Mb smaller than that with TMPGenc + DVD2AVI. I made with CQ = 35, vbr 300 - 1500 , and VBF = 40.
When I compare the 2 methods in a home DVD, this seems the same !

Thanks NYPlayer. I didn't realize the spread values were determining the sampling rates for the filesize prediction routines. Makes sense after the fact :) It did a nice job with the default values, but I'll give yours a try as well.

Seems like the formula used in DVD2SVCD is not as accure as the one we're using. It usually makes smaller files that the actual final size. I have sent DVD2SVCD a message about trying out our method. Hopefully he will try it, and verify that it does indeed give a very sharp result using CD or CQ_VBR modes.
