I verified the ADVANCED user was there but when I go into FRAMESERVER these isn't a "TARGET RES" setting. Only resize to:
That doesn't allow you to CHOOSE your resolution other then VCD,SVCD,DVD,CVD.

It's been superceded by the latest samples with the new scripts. I deleted all samples that were done before the adaptive scripts and latest techniques. Search the forum for "k19" or "k-19" and you'll find the new ones ;)

Wow! Amazing results for a fire and forget program
 

I bought Harry Potter COS (yeah, despite my age, and I also pre ordered the new book too :)) DVD in full screen DVD format, and thought why not try backing it up. I'm still not sure if it's some perverse technical thrill or I am actually attempting to preserve an investment. Anyways, after about 4-5 days, I finally felt comfortable enough with DVD2SVCD that, as I was whiling away my lunch hour at work today, I thought of how to go about the backup.

Cruising my usual lunch time websites, I came here and read about the KVCD_LBR.ini and matrix.ini for DVD2SVCD. Why not? So, when I got home, I downloaded the newest KVCD_LBR.ini (I think), and the matrix.ini. Backed up my current settings into a zip file, and droppped the new ones into place. Fired up the program, and let it rip. I burnt the CD as a non standard VCD in Nero, and it works perfectly on my DVD player (2 Initial DVD-9510 portables; one hooked up to my TV and the other one tends to follow me around).

I can't believe the quality that is there for 160 minutes of AV stuffed onto one 80 minute CD. Thanks Kwag, very much.

Now, here's a question for you; the DVD I bought was a full screen 4:3 version. I selected 4:3 no borders (encoded as 4:3) in DVD2SVCD. My TV is 4:3. This is how it plays back with no bars on top or bottom. However, when I play the mpeg on my computer, I got the top/bottom black bands; although, I have not yet tried the VCD inside of a program such as PowerDVD....just as a raw mpeg inside of Windows Media Player 9.

Thanks Tom :)You should probably try it with WinDVD and PowerDVD. Most probably, the aspect will be correct. I don't trust WMP ;)

Boy, do I feel like a dummy :oops: I tried backing up Gladiator 7 times, and kept at it all because when I looked at the muxed mpeg in Windows Media Player, it had the 'black bars'. I guess when I get home tonight, I'll try again, and this time just go ahead and burn to a CD, and then see how it looks.

As an aside (and I apologize because I realize this has been dealt with elsewhere....I just don't understand the answer), let's say that I wanted to use KVCD-CQ-352x480-_NTSCFilm_-PLUS inside of DVD2SVCD; how would I go about doing that? I know that I would need a KVCD-CQ-352x480-_NTSCFilm_-PLUS.ini, but am ignorant as to how to create one.

It's normal to have black bars on Gladiator : it's a 2.35:1 movie. When you encode it into KVCD (that is 4:3), big black borders are added at top and bottom.

How do you want to make a rectangular picture enter in a (near) square one without this ?

I don't read the backs of packages :oops: I had just assumed that it would not have these black bars (part of the learning process). Still, it ripped/encoded okay, and looked a lot better on my tv than I thought it would. Albeit a *tiny* bit squashed so that people's faces would look thinner than normal.


Question: after reading the package and DVD more clearly, Gladiator is a 2.35:1 ananmorphic DVD (purchased in Canada). I've got a 4:3 TV. In order for the aspect ratios to look correct, which of the three options in DVD2SVCD should I be selecting;

a) 4:3 (no borders encoded as 4:3)
b) 16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3)
c) anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9)

I don't mind making mistakes as long as I learn :)

I you have modified you dvd2svcd.ini file in order to use the last MA script with D2S, you don't have to do anything : the script use GripFit that manages anamorphic source by default.

Now, with the basic resizing method of D2S (Bilinear, Bicubic or SimpleResize), you have to set to :

b) 16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3)

Uhm....don't know how to do that
 

And also don't know about this cript to which you are referring. Additionally, I would assume that I would be modifying my LBR.ini instead? Could you pleast post the modification and how to do it?

Just report the last changes of the MA script in the example given, its easy. I don't have the script on my office PC.

No, you gone too far into the thread. Didn't you see my post with a much simple script ? ;-)

BTW, I'm at home now so I can give you the last script I use into DVD2SVCD. Note that there are some llittle diff with the "official" MA script as I use TemporalCleaner insteed of TemporalSoften and don't like "Limiter()" at all, so I removed it.
And yes, you have to add a new section at the end of the LBR.ini file then load it in DVD2SVCD. You'll then have a new choice in the "frameserver" tab called "Adaptative Filter"

Thanks for the response Phil. Your script seems easy enough for me to implement without screwing anything up. And of course I will back up what I've got before trying.

I assume that you are using Avisynth 2.52, correct? I'm currently using 2.08, but can easily switch to 2.52. At the moment, I'm not using any extra plugins, so I wouldn't have any compatability problems from that angle; looking at your script, I gather I would have to download the following filters..... 1) undot.dll 2) Asharp.dll 3) STMedianFilter.dll Are there any others that I would need for your script? I've also downloaded GripFit (both preview and a YV12 version), LegalClip, and mpeg2dec3

If they are needed, would I load them in by adding LoadPlugin commands to the script, or could I just place them in the AViSynth 2.5 plugins folder (either under the AviSynt 2.5 folder, or in the DVD2SVCD subfolder)?

If I do have to use LoadPlugin commands in the script to be able to use the plugin dll's, is there an optimal or proper order of placement? In a message section title 'Latest Scripts', I see that Kwag has used LoadPlugin commands in a specific order.....

1/ for sure I use AVS2.52

2/ you have listed all the filters needed, DL all the ones you don't have and put them into the directory "plugins" of avs2.52

3/ I repeat it again and again : No need of loadplugin lines with avs2.52. It autoloads every plugins that are into the "plugins" directory.

4/ even with avs2.08 you don't need to include legalclip.dll as it is a builtin command since a long time now !

I got an error with your script
 

1. Downloaded Avisynth 2.52
2. Downloaded all appropriate filters and placed in the AviSynth2,5 Plugins directory
3. Pasted your script to the end of my KVCD_LBR.ini file
4. Started D2S and loaded the ini file
5. Ran an AVI file and it processed until halting on encoding with TMPGEnc Plus 5.913

The error was 'Illegal Function in line 5 GripCrop'

Any ideas?

You have to put Gripfit_yv12.dll into plugin directory.

But it is in the directory. Could the problem be that the Gripfit_Preview.dll is also there?
