Moviestacker guide

ok had my first go at moviestacker and boy I have no idea what the hell I'm doin, unti trying moviestacker I have been trotting by merrily using the scripts mentioned on the forum. I wanted to try and do a kvcd right from scratch no scripts premade. So anyway will there be a moviestacker to kvcd guide on the way??

rendalunit 05-23-2003 12:38 PM

i had a go at making a small MovieStacker guide- not thorough but might be useful for quick reference

let me know if there's mistakes- I'll fix it

Looks good ren :)

Edit: You might want to change Precision to 0.5% on 1st Group of passes in ToK

All pictures open for me except the first moviestacker one(first picture in guide)

Great guide (simple and quick)

edit-all images load fine now and have one question in headche3 it says to click #5 resample to 44.1, i learned from following another guide and this isn't done should i start doing it now. :?:

rendalunit 05-24-2003 02:56 PM

I changed the images from .bmp to .png format so it should load faster. The images went from about 1mb to about 35k each in size

yep the audio needs to be sampled at 44.100 khz but not the audio for KDVD :!:

Actually, the audio doesn't necessarily need to be 44.1khz for KVCDs. Many dvd players will handle vcd/kvcd's with audio @ 48khz (mine does, as well as a few others I've tried). 48khz audio should sound better (and encode quicker too without the downsampling cycle in heacac3he), so if a person's player will support it, I'd say use it. Afterall, KVCDs are a sorta funky  format themselves, so if a player will play KVCDs at all, then it's probably worth a shot trying the non-standard audio too. For newbies though, guides should probably state that they should start out with 44.1khz for compatibility reasons....then they can test whether 48khz works later on when they know what they're doing.

nice guide by the way Ren!...a very welcome addition. :D

jorel 05-25-2003 01:46 AM

you're right "dc".

the audio in 48k have "proud" basses, clear quality.
new model seems that don't have this problem.

but thinking in newbys, we need litlle samples to give them to test.
some old player don't like 48k,
then after burn a test in cdrw, all can choose what works.
see what happen in my player:
burning svcd in nero with menu(images) and audio 48k,
sometimes i loose the sincro.
in 352x240 all audio bitrates works perfect.
or i remove the menu or change the audio to 44k.
i'm trying to buy a new player to remove this and
some more problems.....i'm searching a new one!

for my surprise, the new model of Semp in Brasil,
don't play standards vcds or svcds...kvcds?...forget! don't work!
and the price is in the stars. 8O
only play dvds,no mp3 too! 8O 8O
well,better is trash this model,don't?

does the size stated in moviestacker matter? I have tried but can't get it to a prefered res like 352X576

Hey just set the destination res to 1/2 DVD to get 352x576 (if the source is NTSC then you need to check 'Format conversion')

Great guide ren! :D

I'm just wondering why the frame around the filters groups are not showing in your screenshots...

rendalunit 05-30-2003 11:45 PM

thanks Muaddib!

I haven't seen frames around the filter groups 8O

ren

getsome831 07-18-2003 03:10 PM

With regard to the 'Destination' resolution setting, in order to get the 120mins on one 80min CD wouldn't the resolution have to be down near the 352x240 (VCD) range? (in order to maintain a decent CQ anyway)

Thanks,

-g

Dialhot 07-18-2003 05:19 PM

Now, I managed to have decent results with the 1/2DVD res (352*480).

I raised a little the parameters of some filtering (Mergeluma(blur(0.2)) for instance), lower the min video rate to 64 Kbs and encode the audio to 112.

Don't remeber the exact CQs but they were above 60 (that's the minimal value I accept to use, below that I switch to a 90min CD ou 2 80min CDs).

Prodater64 03-17-2004 02:10 PM

Hi: I have a few questions.
- What is the difference between resize and overlap?
- How letterbox (when overlap) work?
- Often letterbox parameters are 8,8,8,8. Is it same (for encoding) than 0,0,16,16
- If I select 0,0,16,16, must I change any other values? (in lanczosresize or addborders)
- Must I select resize or overlap, using "error" like guide?

muaddib 04-06-2004 01:52 AM

Hi Prodater64,
You should find the answer here (look for my 3rd post): http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3767

Prodater64 04-06-2004 06:56 AM

When I change in blocks tv overscan settings from resize to overlap, Aspect Ratios error change too. Must I to select method that give me less error value?

muaddib 04-06-2004 01:31 PM

If you keep with the "accurate" method (which I recommend), you never have to worry about error value. MovieStacker will calculate the crop and resize to keep the error low enough that you will never notice the difference.
If you don't want to use the accurate method, try to keep the error below 1%. Above that, the error label will turn red. Although I think you can go until 1.5% without much problem.

Dialhot 04-06-2004 05:34 PM

I greatly suggest you to keep also an eye on the "Crop" zone.
Sometimes, in accurate mode, and in order to maintain the error as low as possible, Movistacker doesn't hesitate to cut more than 16 pixels on any side !
That's a lot... Keep that in mind.

muaddib 04-07-2004 12:06 PM

Do you really think that 16 pixel is that much?
Well, may be with DivX it is... but with a DVD source (720x???) I don't think that is too much.
But you are 100% right. MovieStacker will cut whatever is necessary to preserve the aspect ratio (in the accurate mode).

rendalunit 04-25-2004 01:43 PM

hey kwag,

i think maybe the link to my guide should be taken off the main page since it's not relevant anymore  It was just to get mstacker to work with avisynth 2.5x but now since the new mstacker's out it's not needed

thnx,
ren

kwag 04-25-2004 02:44 PM

Thanks ren :)
I'll do that now.
