Size increase
I used this guide step by step to create a kvcd. Problem is that the original avi file is 713 meg and after following the instructions the same avi file became 913 meg. I'm pretty sure that I can't fit this on a 80 minute cd. The avi file is 107 minutes long. How can I reduce the file size to fit on an 80 minute cd? Thanks for any help.

Look further in the site and give a look to the tool called CQMATIC.
It is used to predicate the sier of the final video and avoid to have one that is too big. |
Not a reply, just a quick question...
Is there a template for ksvcd?? If so please help me locate it, I have searched but the search always pulls up about 2,000 pages(forums, posts, whatever it is...) Thanks!! |

Right after I posted, I found it...HAHAHAHA!!! that makes me laugh  ..... So if you guys are looking for it, it is at www.kvcd.net in the left column under utilities... Thanks!!! |
Following Track Error
I'm getting a "following track error" when I try to burn the first KVCD I made using the Idiot's Guide.
Anyone knows what does it means and what should I do to prevent this? Thanks! |
Aren't you trying to burn more than 79'57 (807 MB) ? If yes, your burner do not support overburn.
Else... tell us which software you are using. |

You are the best! After searching the net for two days, after returning some cd-r's, after exchanging brands with no success...you just gave me the solution, and I couldn't believe how easy it was. I'm using nero 6 and the overburn option was checked (strange is that I've used this feature before with no problems). When I unchecked it, the KVCD was burn free of problems. And my file has less than 500MB! Thanks man! |
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and I hope someone can help me out. I followed the "Idiots Guide" and I do good up to the point of muxing. Here's the deal....I have a .m1v file created using the 120 minute template for TMPGenc approx. 360MB in size, and I have a .mp2 file created using virtual dub & headac3he approx. 155MB in size(44.1/dual/112). My problem comes when I try to mux them, I end up with an .mpg file that is just under a gig (approx. 960MB). The resulting file is quite good quality, and there are no synch issues, its just too big. I tried to author a KVCD using a more complex guide I found in the forums, but I get lost when they start talking about moviestacker and scripts. The movie I am trying to convert is almost DVD quality so it should make an excellent KVCD if I can get past this point. Sorry if my post is long, but any help would be appreciated. |

155 Mb audio at 112 Kbit/s gives an audio length about 3 HOURS ! You have a problem there, for sure ! Note: I wonder if I won't remove this guide. Too much problems. |
Wow such a quick reply nice!
Well I also created the .mp2 using the technique outlined in the"Guide" just using TMPGenc and ended up with a file that was only 60MB in size, but the result was identical. I gather from your post that I am on the right track, and my issue lies with the audio file (or is it the muxing?). Is that a good assumption? I also used a program called "acp", an all-in-one program to create KVCD using about a 1/2 dozen different programs, it did the same darn thing (just much faster than I did it myself). I've got a ton of movies to Konvert, if I could just get 1 success I'd be on my way. I've been trying to convert this one movie for about a month, done a sh**load of reading (most of here on the forums) but alot of it is very complicated. I'm not stupid, I can build computers in my sleep, I've got an AAS in electronics, but I'm a hardware guy not a software guy, and all the scripting talk throws my brain into a frenzy. Help me I've fallen and can't get up! ;-) |
Okay, le's do it setp by step :
- What is the length in minute of your video ? - What is the video file size ? - What is the audio file size ? - What is the muxed fiel size ? - What do you use for muxing ? Software version is important here. |
Okay here we go.
Movie length-- 94 min Original AVI size--718MB(.avi) Encoded Video size--360MB(.m1v)--using tmpg Encoded Audio size--60MB(.mp2) -- using tmpg Muxed File size--926MB(.mpg)--using tmpg These are all approximate sizes as I have deleted all but original AVI, but they are very very close approximations. I haven't given up, just going to start over....again. |
Sorry missed the necessity for software version
TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 version # 2.59.47.155 |
Quote:
This is the ONLY ONE version to not use because it is buggy in the muxing part. Use either 2.58 or 2.510 and above. You just had bad luck ;-) |
DANG!!
wish I woulda waited to delete all now I start from scratch..oh well thats the breaks. Thank you for your timely reply, I will redo all and let you know the results thanks again. |
Join the opportunity to change a your settings. 360 Mb (half a CD 80 min) for a movie of 94 min long... it's few !!!
Is it what you want to obtain ? A movie that will fit on half a CD ? The uqlity will be poor compared to what you can have by using all the CD ! |
What settings do I change to make better Quality? Do I use the K(S)VCD template for tmpgenc? My goal is to make 94 minute video fit on 1 80 minute cd-r at best possible quality.

Go in cqmatic section of the forum. All is there. |
really? i always used the kvcd cb 120 min. ntsc-film template for that size. on an avi under 120 min. we should use the kvcdx3 template, or is that only for skvcd?
|
DIAL YOU ROCK!!!!
Ok after trying to do it on my own, and failing miserably, I again tried that program "acp". With the earlier version of TMPGEnc you told me to use it worked perfectly. The quality is as good as the original AVI file (actually looks better to me even though I know thats not possible  ), and all I had to do was tell it what I wanted. Thats my kind of program. Now I can clear out my HD to make room for more stuff thanks to you. |

Min must be set to the minimal supported by your standalone (mine supports 64, some 0, the majority claim for 300, very few need 600 min). The maximum depends on the length of your movie. If I want to put a 2h30 movie on one CD, it's easier to do that at 1800 as maximum that if I let the max to 2300 for instance. For sure scenes with big movement will suffer from this, but there is no way to put a movie such long on a CD wihtout limiting the bandwith somehow. |
Cougar_Pines guide question
hello all. i have been able to complete my first kvcd conversion from 1 avi file to 1 kvcd file.
My question is in the guide at step 5 is says "If video is larger than 800 MB, ...." is this a typo or is that correct. a 80min cdr is only 700 mb. which would mean you would have to trim just over 100 mb for the video to fit right? If i am wrong can someone let me know. and for those who are wondering my 1 avi file was 699mb and with converting it i was able to get a 434mb kvcd file. |
hi lordviper2300
vcd are burnt in mode 2 which allows 800 mb's instead 700 :D on a regular 700 mb cdr Quote:
Many people join 2- 700 mb avi's together and they make 1 kvcd |
nice guide, thanx! i've noticed though that whenever i play back the encoded video there's sorta pause happening every tenth second... :? which is a bit annoying... any ideas why that might happen?
|
Do you have the problem on you PC or on the standalone ?
|
on both! the picture quality is superb! but it freezes every 10th or 15th second just as i said above :(

Set the video encoding mode to "3:2 pulldown during playback" in tmpgenc. That can solve your problem. Quote:
Where the hell did you found this resolution ? This is NOT a legal resolution and I'm even surprise you can read taht on your standalone. |
Quote:
and yes my Provision DVD player reads it pretty well |
btw is it possible that the aspect ratio will be lost if i use "3:2 pulldown during playback" encoding? cause i always use "full screen (keep aspect ratio)" mode
|
Quote:
3:2 pulldown has nothing to do with aspect ratio. It has to do with framerate flags. -kwag |

And your player does not play it well : it freezes every 10 second ;-) I really don't understand the purpose to use such low resolution. If you like things unwatchable, stuck to regular VCD :? |
did everything as u said, guyz! it just won't work! in fact, the first time i transcoded the movie i used 3:2 pulldown playback by default... i checked it! but anyway, no matter what settings i use the TMPGenc produces a jerky picture... :? on every movie i've got :x
|
And you say you have this also on the PC ?
Save your tmpgenc project as a text file and post it here please. And you script also if you use one. |
Code:
ÿ here ya go... i don't use avisynth, cause it crashes my system |
