FFMPEG: ffvfw, Error getting Compressor Output format size

Hi everybody.

I have a few questions concerning ffvfw. I have the newest build installed, also the newest one ffdshow!
But whenever I try to save an MPEG-File VDubMod gives me the error:

"Error getting Compressor Output format size"

What did I do wrong? Also how would I change the Q-Matrix to Notch Matrix? It's greyed out. How can I unlock it?

Hi Jell!

(nice you opened a separate Thread *gg*)

Get the NOTCH matrix for ffvfw here, so you can load it in the Quantisation settings:

And according to that you cant choose the correct options, pleas do look at the beginning of the thread where Kwag did post Pics where you can see all needed settings in FFvfw.

Sorry incredible, but I think you understood me wrong.

1/ I can't even encode anything with that codec at "full processing mode" because I get the error mentioned above from VDubMod. At "fast recompress" it does seem to work. So there's nothing it does not depend on the settings right?

2/ I can't even alter the matrix nor load your matrix file, because the whole tab is greyed out/locked. My question was how to unlock it.

Hi Jellygoose :)
For encoding i use fast recompress, while it gives a lot of speed, and on quality ... judge joureself. We did not use slowest encode option in neither aplications, while normal or fast produces same quality.

If you instaled ffvfw, open video file/avs script in VD(AVS, MOD), and in tab compresion -> ffvfw, pick MPEG2 encode (upper left corner). In quantization choose quantization type -> MPEG, then CUstom quantization tables are non-grey :) Input Incredibles file, ot type matrixes youre self (beter input that file ;) ).
Go to output tab, and check store frames in extrnal file (MPEG1 video stream). It will prodeuce MPEG2 stream, but you have to demux it to pure m2v file (TMPG). Uncheck store frams in avi.
And now save AVI file. It will be faked file, and the real file you pointed in encoder.
Have fun :)

@ Jell
Did you got the latest Build of ffvfw and ffdshow ???? The one from Jan.2004!

When I first tried ffvfw some time ago I used to get the same error as Jellygoose. I ticked force output mode to yuy2 and it cleared it up (this was on tv caps). Doesn't happen anymore though, suspect it was a codec issue. Haven't tried this yet but wonder if the quality would be any different if I uninstalled Xvid and chose ffvfw as my yv12 decoder.
