Sony S560D

Sony S560D

Plays both of Kwang templates:

The KVCD-CQ-(NTSCFilm) template at 352x480 no problems :D
The KVCDx2-CQ-(NTSCFilm)-1CD templates at 704x480 no problems even at CQ= 70 for those 45 min tv shows.

One thing I have to use CDRW as it w'ont plays CDR's but for the rest great DVD players.

Ok i'v tested these with original KVCD template:

Daewoo DVD2500: Doesn't work-audio skips
Daewoo DVD4000: Doesn't work-audio skips

I'll check the x2 template this week. Good luck.

Apex-1200

I can use my Apex-1200 to play the KVCDx2-CQ-(NTSCFilm)-1CD template but only if i change the resolution. 352x240 will work fine for a VCD but if you want higher resolution, encoding at 480x480 will work as well as long as you demux and remux the mpeg as a SVCD VBR and burn it as a SVCD. I'm wondering if this works for anyone else with a 1200 cause the compatability chart only shows it working at 352x240.

I Have a Philips DVD711 Firmware 7.12
Tried the KVCD PAL 2-CD template. It will only work after de-mux en re-mux with bbmpg as SVCD. :D
Burn it with easyvcd as svcd, then you will have no trouble.
I'll try the other templates later.....

[quote="drnicotine"]Finlux DVD 510

I've been to optimistic about this player. In NTSC encodings it has the same problems as some of the Apex players (Finlux appears to be from the same factory as Apex and Hiteker).

I've finally settled on PAL 352x288. It plays well, but the picture is somehow centered a bit too much to the left on my TV: You loose a bit of the picture on the left, and on the right you have a very small (a few millimeters on a 70cm screen) column of blackness.

I've tried 2-pass VBR as an alternative (with the rest of Kwag's settings), but that didn't work out well: on many scene changes it leaves blocks from the last scene in the picture (for lack of a better description).

I've finally settled on PAL 352x288 with the converted 352x576 template. It plays well, but the picture is somehow centered a bit too much to the left on my TV: You loose a bit of the picture on the left, and on the right you have a very small (a few millimeters on a 70cm screen) column of blackness.

The latest 352x288 template (with 1150 as max bitrate) was less succesfull: on many scene changes it leaves blocks from the last scene in the picture (for lack of a better description).

I've tried 2-pass VBR as an alternative (with the rest of Kwag's settings), but that had the same problems.

Ok good news for all of you who have a KONKA 1800U it plays pretty good the KVCDx2 templates if you demux, remux and burn as SVCD, i said early that it doesn't played it but it does if you do what i said.

Good Luck!

An update for Kwag's master compatability list:

Sony DVP-C660
Works with all templates.
Requires CD-RW or 'STI Digital Media' CD-Rs (possibly PRINCO also, but untested by me).

hankarhu 06-27-2002 03:27 PM

KVCD 2xCD 704x576 (PAL) works fine on Sony NS700V.

Unfortunately I haven't experimented with the other templates.

PlaiBoi 06-28-2002 01:36 AM

The dvd-models page says that the AD-1100W doesnt work at all. Thats incorrect. Ive only made 352x240 KVCD's and it plays them fine. Ill try standard KVCD as well as KVCDx2 soon.

JVC XV-SA70 And XV-S500BK PLAY EVERYTHING!!!

I would like to add the JVC XV-SA70 and XV-S500BK DVD Players to the KVCD and KVCDx2 full compatibility list. These players have played any standard or non-standard MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 content I have thrown at them no matter if it is VBR,CQ, or CBR mode. They play KVCD (352X480) and KVCDx2 (704X480 CQ50,70) at DVD quality, VCD, CVCD (352X480 MPEG-2), SVCD (480X480 MPEG-2) flawlessly with perfect audio/video synch and fast forward and rewind functions. The picture quality with the KVCDx2 2CD template at CQ70 or above is DVD quality on both my 27" Tube TV with component inputs, and my fully calibrated Toshiba 57H81 HDTV via 480P component inputs. The KVCDx2 blows SVCD at 2520 CBR away in picture quality and of course file size. I do notice the flashing greenish macro blocks every 2 seconds or so with KVCD templates, but only when viewing on the PC and not on TV. I would like to add that neither the KVCD or KVCDx2 videos played right on an Apex 500WM I tested them on. It has been noted that it is the resolution that the 500WM can't handle so that would explain why. I would like to conclude by saying that those two JVC DVD players that I own are of top quality and reliability, and have the best combination of picture, sound, and compatibility with anything MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 that I have found of any DVD player out there. 8)

Thanks for the info hurtz777!
Will update the compatibility page later tonight.

Sinter 07-01-2002 02:01 PM

I've tested the KVCDx2 2cd template and had no problems with playback on the Apex AD-1100w 1mb unit (I've tested on 2 units 1 w/ the Macrovision hack and 1 with the stock firmware). The only modification I made to the template (NTSC 704x480) was I set it to 29.97fps to match my source material and de-interlaced.

Toshiba 4700 DVD Player

DVD Player: Toshiba 4700

I am using standard KVCDx2 templates from this site.
No problems found so far.

PlaiBoi 07-13-2002 03:41 PM

Sinter,

I tried the KVCDx2 on my AD-1100W (512k) and the audio was skipping. Maybe making it 29.97 fixes that problem? What if my source is FILM though? Wont encoding at 29.97 decrease quality?

markums2k 07-15-2002 12:06 AM

Apex 1100W

I have an Apex 1100W 1MB unit, hacked firmware. I'll be running some tests over the next few days. My original hopes of using Kwag's temps were dashed when he had those oh-so-hurtful red letters next to the Apex on the player page... :x

However, due to recent posts on the board and the update on the player page, I am determined to get this template to work on my Apex. I really don't so much need to squeeze everything to one CD, but I NEED to get that quality UP UP UP!

I plan to encode audio seperately with headache (l33t sp34k omitted) and mux with BBmpeg in all cases... my biggest concern being sync, not quality. Wish me luck!

tuco1979 08-22-2002 01:55 PM

I have a mintek 1600 and it does work with 23.97 fps (film). I tried it with kvcd 352x480 and it worked fine. I haven't really had an opportunity to try out all of the templates.

Finlux DVD 510

Sadly, KVCDx3 does not work on the Finlux DVD 510, all kinds of blocks all over the place, but no coherent picture :(

I stick to the KVCDplus 352x288 PAL templates, they work the best

Did you try creating a clip with the KVCDx3 MPEG-2, and burning as SVCD?

No I didn't, for a personal reason: my girl friend has a Sony that doesn't play SVCD, and I like the movies I make to be compatible between our two players.

Her player actually accepts more Kwag templates than mine, so i'll try the x3 version there in a few days for your compatibility list.

I'll try the '3/4 DVD full' variant I read about tonight if I can find the time...

tuco1979 08-29-2002 02:42 PM

Mintek 1600 kvcdx3 does work on it (just tried mpeg1) I will probably try to see if mpeg2 work with my player

I tried mpeg2 for svcd, kvcdx3, and skvcd and they all studdered slightly during whole scene movement (like when the camera pans from one side to another.) It didn't look much better than mpeg1 for me (granted I was using tv captures) so I am just going to stick with mpeg1.

Hi Kwag,

JVC XV-S60BK

KVCDx3 Mpeg-1 = OK (little better than SVCD quality)
KVCDx3 Mpeg-2 = OK (same as SVCD quality)

:)

Standalone DVD/VCD Players

On SONY NS-400D:

I've just tested all KSVD plus, SKVCD, and KVCDx3 samples.

Always for this DVD players, we need to convert with TMPGenc, mpeg2 video files in no-standard mpg1 files, but all works fine !

gopalkk 09-22-2002 01:11 AM

KVCDx3 MPEG-2 NTSC 544x480

works in APEX 600a, 660, 1500.

Thanks Kwag!!!

But, I could fit 3hour widescreen movies in 2-cds only at CQ12.

I want to put this 3hour movie in 2-cds at CQ18.

Will try Interlacing.

Kwag, pl. suggest some sources for interlacing progressive stream.

TIA

kwag 09-22-2002 12:19 PM

Hi gopalkk,

Go for the 352x480 PLUS. That will fit your 3 hour movie in two CD's.

I've heard some replies referring to the Sony NS315. Could any of y'all who did the testing in the first place with this model test it with KVCDx3? Thanks, I'm thinking of buying this and KVCDx3 is the main template I use. :D

MrRobot 12-09-2002 08:57 PM

Sony NS315 and KVCDX3 template

I have this Sony and am very happy with it. I just recently made a short 3 minute clip of some still photos and VHS capture from tape. It played great. Mind you, this was a very short clip. However, it appears to work. You might want to do what I did. I am very conservative. Encode one and take to the nearest Sears store and test it out.

DL 12-25-2003 01:38 PM

I just run this "KVCD Version 2 Compatibility Test CD image" on my very new Finlux F-510 DVD-player and here are the results.

kvcd-ulbr PASSED
kvcd-lbr PASSED
kvcd-352x240 PLUS PASSED
kvcd-352x480 PLUS PASSED
kvcd-704x480 PLUS PASSED

All six clips worked fine and really have say that the last clip look very good almost dvd quality. Please give me some comments.

It might just work :)

Yeah, it looks like a few resolutions don't work on my player. The 720x480 test video worked fine, but I encoded a whole movie to 704x480 and it was unwatchable :(

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it. :)
