Compatible Models
The following models play the default KVCD format correctly, without any Audio/Video synchronization problems.
The standard KVCD template resolution is 352x480. Some DVD players won't play at this resolution, but in most cases, you can change the output resolution to 352x240 and they will play correctly. Please add your Make/Model to this thread. Panasonic RP-56 Sony NS300 JVC XV-F80 7 Disc Changer Panasonic Portable DVD-L10 DMR-E20 DVD-R/DVD-RAM Player/Recorder Happy Playback! kwag |
Pioneer 333
Pioneer 333.
This model has been reported to be compatible by changing the output resolution on the KVCD template from 352x480 to 352x240. |
Eclipse-695 compatible with PAL 352 x 288, uncompatible with 480 x 480

Sanyo 7201 fully compatible (PAL) 352x288 352x576 + standard VCD and SVCD,MP3  - Also have the firmware upgrade for this model to convert it to region free, works with RCE DVD's too. just have to burn the image to CD - So no chipping involved.
Toshiba SD200E OK with VCD but wont play SVCD or Kwag's templates  |
Two more models
Panasonic RV31-- plays Kwag's templates straight out da box beautifully.
Apex AD-1500--plays Kwag's templates if the file(s) have been demuxed and RE-muxed with bbmpg 1.8 as SVCD. ThX bman. zooter |
Just Tried all the sample mpeg files created by KVCD templates,
Hitachi DVP323 can play KVCD/PLUS/KVCDx2/KVCDx3 format correctly. |
Finlux DVD 510 / Sony Sony DAV-S300
Finlux DVD 510
I'm sure about 352x240 working, even on a PAL TV. Not sure yet about 352x480, lots of blocks, but could be my encoding. Interestingly the Fast Forward worked on 352x240, not on 352x480. Also tried Sony DAV-S300 with 352x240, works fine. Remember the CD-R problems mentioned on VCDhelp.com though |
Apex AD-600A works fine at 352x240 ( or 352x288 )
Just verified that the Apex AD-600A plays fine by just modifying the output resoultion from 352x480 to 352x240 ( or 352x288 if you are using the PAL template ).
Leave all other parameters as they are. kwag |
JVC XV-S60BK
plays VCDs, SVCDs, XVCDs. 352x480 plays great! plays ALL cd storage media. dont know about dvdr(w) tho. tested bitrates up to 2500 and as low as 300. works fine. |

When that happens, I can get it to work if I encode the file with all the same settings, but as an MPEG-2 file, and then remux it back into an MPEG-1. Doing that, I can only get about 90 minutes on one disc, with certain source files, that's the only way I can get them to work. DrC |

Try to encode file as MPEG-1 non standard , demux and remux with bbMPEG as SVCD ( top line , two params checked works fine for me ) . I suggest to try that - I've "Armageddon" ~145min on one disk with CQ67 Kwag's template (more than fine quality). Play some with top two line params in video multiplex settings . I hope it'll solve the problem bman |
Standalone DVD/VCD Players
Cyberhome AD-L 528 works fine at 352x288 resolution.
Have not yet tried 352x576 |
I just tried the Samples at 352 x 480 and at 352 x 240 on an Apex 1200 (NTSC model)... Here it what I found... At 352 x 480 the images are elongated and corrupted displaying only one frame every few seconds... Now at 352 x 240 they played back very well but the quality was Good not great (could just be TMPG as I re-encoded to the lower Resolution using the KVCD Template)... OverAll very Nice Work... Now to see how my Captures look on this... I'll be using this alot... Great Work Guys...

Just to say that it works fine on a Sony DVP-NS305
CQ=70, 320*288 or 320.588 PAL eg : American History X = 1CD great quality |
Samsung DVD-P421 KVCD test results:
Burned "bug" sample, no changes as non-compliant VCD. Result: Green macro blocks covering 80% of the picture, desynced sound. Burned "bug" sample, TMPGEnc reencoded to x240, non-compliant VCD. Result: Normal picture, but frame and sound skips. Burned "bug" sample, remuxed with BBMpeg to SVCD, burned as SVCD. Result: Perfect picture, perfect sound. Synchrony! The final test looked great, and as far as I can tell, is perfect. BTW, this DVD player is pretty cool. Even random plays MP3 discs! 8O |

At what resolution did it work after re-muxing as SVCD? 352x240 or 352x480? Or did it work at both? kwag |
It worked in the KVCD standard 352x480. I didn't bother trying the x240.

Daewoo DVD-5800 gauntlet
Daewoo DVD-5800
Great little unit...I like the sound quality and it gulped up everything I threw at it. DVD, MP3, CD-RW, VCD, SVCD, 74/80/90, CDR, VBR, CQ....except the KVCD at 352 x 480!.....DANG!...Tried every idea I know or have researched, just does not like the 480 in MPEG-1..Although, it works fine at 352 x 240 and NTSC with PAL resolutions  .... SVCD's are truely awesome on this thing, so I tried KVCD'S setting in MPEG 2..Bingo! not a problem, works nicely and the file sizes are close....UPDATED KWAG (NTSC) TEMPLATE'S MPEG-1 KVCD(NSTCFilm)-352x240 YES KVCD(NSTCFilm)-352x288 YES* Change "Video-size" KVCD(NSTCFilm)-352x480 NO KVCD(NSTCFilm)-352x576 YES* Change "Video-size" KVCDx2(NSTCFilm)1CD-704x480 NO KVCDx2(NSTCFilm)1CD-704x576 YES* Change "Video-size" KVCDx2(NSTCFilm)2CD-704x480 NO KVCDx2(NSTCFilm)2CD-704x576 YES* Change "Video-size" KDVD(NTSC-Half-D1)352x480 YES KDVD(NTSC-Full-D1)720x480 YES KWAG (PAL) TEMPLATE'S No tests performed with PAL framerates |
Memorex MVD2027
Add the Memorex MVD2027 to the list of compatible players. Just tried a KVCD disk and it worked great (352x240, CQ80). Have also played AudioCD, VCD, SVCD, XVCD and MP3 disks without problems.
|
Works with the Panasonic DVD-RV26, although at the start of the movies there will be a few seconds of black then the movie will start playing though. Not enough not to use the template though.
|
Samples work fine with portable Mintek DVD-1710.

I'm happy to inform that the SONY DVP NS315 and the SONY DVP NS400D played a movie made with the KVCDx2 NTSC(without changes) for one cd template perfectly! i mean there was no visible blocks, the colors where great and the audio was just awsome! I tried too a PIONEER 535 and it had audio issues, tried a panasonic wich is a stereo too(with radio am/fm sorry i dont remember the model) and it played pretty fine, almost like the sony's, not so great image quality but it hadn't any audio or video issues. By the way my KONKA 1800U doesn't played at all just a green big square in al the TV, so sad
So for KVCDx2: SONY NS315: Rocks! SONY NS400D: Rocks! PIONEER 535: Audio Issues KONKA 1800U: Doesn't work Congrats to all of you who have a sony! DaDe. |

Page of compatible players
This is a good thread to share successes of players with different templates but doesn't really display the information very easily.
Is there going to be any move towards having a dedicated page listing players and if they are compatible with the various templates? Something similar to the VCD Help compatible players page would be ideal. |

Eventually, when I get more time, I'll start reading through this thread and make a "Read-Only" list of players and post a link in the main page. kwag |
Meanwhile, for KVCD (original without changes) template:
SONY DVP NS315S: Perfect! SONY DVP NS400D: Doesnt liked it! KONKA 1800U: Perfect! So, for those who doesn't want to reencode again movies made with past templates and want to enjoy the quality of the new ones, the NS315S or NS315B is the choice, this beauty plays, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw, mp3, vcd and of course KVCD's!! Good Luck! |
After I updated my Yamakawa 715 to the newest firmware(openfirmware miniDVD Version to be precise) it plays all samples without a hitch ... bevore that it was sort of vomiting pixels all over the screen
|
Does anyone have info on the Sony NS500V if you do let me know  Thx..
|
Grundig GDV-130 FW2.36 :D
PAL 352x288, 352x576, 480x576, 704x576, 720x576 as MPEG1 CBR or VBR, MPEG2 CBR or VBR burnt as VCD, SVCD or ISO (using the built-in file explorer) MPEG-1 muxed as non-standard VCD (= timedisplay is wrong) MPEG-1 muxed as SVCD (= timedisplay is correct) This machine even can handle MPEG1 Layer III audiostrems inside VCD, SVCD. |
GE 5803p 3 disk changer
plays all templates BUT you have to change the fps to 30.which makes the file size bigger. |
Both the JVCV-521BK and the Pioneer DV-343 were able to use Kwags KDVD template at both Full and Half D1 resolutions.
Full D1 - 5000 kb max bitrate Half D1 - 2500 kb max bitrate Otherwise all params at default. Discs were burned onto DVD+R from a HP200i using ULead DVD Moviefactory or DVD Workshop. Only the Pioneer would play same using DVD+RW. :D  :P |
That's great news MoovyGuy
Now we wait until the DVD(X)R media becomes cheaper, which shouldn't be too long!. kwag |
the SONY DVP-NC600 plays kvcdx2 perfectly!
just to update your compatability list :)

The Toshiba SD-210E works with all your templates pal and ntsc
Kwag. :) |
RCA 5240P
The new 352x240 template has the exact same tweaks I made to get it to play just right on my 5240P! I thought I was reckless lowering the upper bitrate that low..
Works well. What's the difference between the 5220P and the 5240P, anyways? |

Is this an NTSC or PAL model?. I have mixed reports from this player. Mostly are that it doesn't work with any KVCD template. kwag |
Sylvania
Finally got round to determining what plays properly on my DVD player.
Sylvania DV2000: KVCD-CQ-352x240-(NTSCFilm)-1CD.mcf - Works fine. KVCD-CQ-352x480-(NTSCFilm)-1CD.mcf - No Luck, even SVCD Remux. KVCDx2-CQ-704x480-(NTSCFilm)-1CD.mcf - Works with SVCD Remux, but picture choppy. I can't find the correct VBV Buffer value to fix this. Spyglass. |
Toshiba
Toshiba SD - 2800 works just fine. Thank you
|
its the pal version and will play almost anything
