CyberHome CH-DVD 300

I just picked one up at Radio Shack for $58(us dollars) has a $10 mail in rebate too. I tested it out in the store and it played everything on the KVCD compatibility v2 test image perfectly. It played so good I got 2 of them :D

Indeed, CyberHome is a very good brand... I got myself a CH-DV 550 which is only available in europe I suppose. you can get it for 99 euros here, and it competes with Sony Pioneer and Phillips concerning image quality, referring to recent tests... :D

kwag 07-14-2003 10:00 AM

WOW, this machine is AWESOME :D
Last night I tested a KVCDx3, a CD-R with a bunch of .JPGs, a CD-R with a couple of .MPGs burned as data, not as VCD :), and the thing plays everything :!:
I also tried a MiniDVD ( DVD structure burned on a CD-R ), and it played too
This is the BEST DVD player I've seen, and specially for the price. The video quality is EXCELENT, connected via component cables and set to "progressive" mode, viewed on my HDTV :)

:D
That's what I said :!:
"Quality Made in Germany" (actually in China, but however all parts are tested here)

totonho03 07-14-2003 09:23 PM

Hello kwag:

I was looking at the specs of the CH-DVD 300 player, and it only refers to -r and -RW discs, have you tested it with +r and +RW discs? Is this one for region one only, or does it play multiple regions?

Thanks and best regards

Totonho

jorel 07-14-2003 09:43 PM

@ DKruskie , Kwag and who will got this model

not kidding:
can someone ask how much money is needed to send me one to Brasil?

please?

totonho03 07-14-2003 09:59 PM

Jorel:

I believe that the best way to do this would be via Fedex or via 2nd or 3d day USPostal express delivery. This may cost any where from 30 to 50 dollars, depending on the weight of the box. Do not need to worry about taxes in Brazil because the unit cost less than US$500.00 dollars. If you are interested, I am going to go to Radio Schack tomorrow and see if they have it at the store. Or you can buy it directly from (Give a minute I am going to go back to one site that sells this unit):

http://store.arguselectronics.com/shop/dept.asp?dept%5Fid=8

Do not know if this store would send the unit outside USA or not.

Thanks

Totonho

jorel 07-14-2003 10:17 PM

you thanks Otto?

you are doing to me a incredible favor!
:D
i'm thankfull and going to the link now and waiting your answers
from Radio Schack tomorrow :!:

the price is important cos the taxes in Brasil are "crazy' sometimes.

thanks in advance my friend Otto :!:

oops..i forgot:
Otto, please ask about "region" and if have ntsc out.
pal-g or secam don't work in Brasil.

 found specifications in the link

totonho03 07-15-2003 02:17 PM

Hello Jorel:

I just came back from Radio Schack, with a brand new dvd player. It is still boxed, unfortunatelly I won't be able to work on it for a couple of hours or so.
On my way back home, I stopped at the Post office, and asked them to wight it and to give me an estimated delivery price. Their answer was: It is about 34 dollars, including a 70 dollars insurance. Total price of unit is 62.99 dollars (59.99 plus taxes).
Did you check the site I sent last night?

I will let you know later on how does the unit behave.

Regards

Otto

totonho03 07-15-2003 05:44 PM

Hi again Jorel:

The unit is compact and does play R+ and +RW discs. So far so good, actually, and this just may be my imagination, the video signal looks better than the one seeing at the RCA unit, granted the RCA dvd, "esta en la ultima lona" A Peruvian or Spanish expression meaning that the unit is working overtime and is ready to die....

Regards

Totonho03

kwag 07-15-2003 05:51 PM

Hey Otto,

Burn some .jpg images on a CD-R, and throw it at the player. Then do a "Slide Show"

-kwag

totonho03 07-15-2003 05:55 PM

Thanks Kwag:

I will do that. A couple of months ago I went to Disney World w/ my son and the grandaughters and took a lot of digital pictures.....Will put them on a CD and have a slide show.............

By the way, thanks to you and all of the folks that posted messages regarding this unit.

Regards

Otto

totonho03 07-15-2003 08:20 PM

Jorel:

To answer your question regarding NTSC. The unit I have is a Region 1 unit, and according to the specs, it can play both NTSC and PAL. (Region 1 pal? did not know that the PAL format was available for Region 1)

Otto

wow .big thanks Otto for your precious time and friendship!
yes,i check the site and see the details, thanks too.

in Brasil is region just like Australia..4 i think.

about the price:
70+34+63= us167 more or less in total?

hmmm....i will ask my wife....depend the power of her punch!
:punch: :BangHead: i post the answer tomorrow!

please Otto,my numbers are correct?
if don't correct please.

thank you my friend!

:D

totonho03 07-16-2003 10:47 AM

Hi Jorel:

No, the numbers you have are not correct:
My cost was:
DVD player: US$ 63.00 (60 for the unit plus 3 dollars for sales tax)
Do not know how much FEDEX will charge for delivery, but the Post office told me that it will cost approximately 34 dollars to deliver the unit to Brazil. (Air mail, app 2 weeks delivery)
I believe that the 34 dollars already includes insurance for the unit, (70 dollars worth of insurance) so the total cost would be 63 + 34, or US$ 97.00 if you were to purchase it in Maryland, and then send it to Brazil.
If you buy directly from the site I gave you, you would not pay sales taxes, and they may let you know what the shipping costs are, if they deliver to Brazil.

Regards

Otto

jorel 07-16-2003 11:40 AM

totonho03 10-27-2003 08:25 PM

Well:
Some of you may remember that I purchased a Cyberhome CH dvd 300 player on July 15. It has a 3 months warranty for parts and labor. Guess what? The unit stop functioning today, 13 days after the warranty was over. I called and they told me that they charge 40 dollars for labor, but by the time I send the unit to them, the repair/replacement will cost me around 48 dollars. To be fair with them, the CSR mentioned that perhaps they will not charge for labor, but I still have to pay for the shipment.
My tough luck..................

kwag 10-27-2003 10:39 PM

Hey Otto,

It's cheaper to dump the unit, and just buy a new one :!:

EightBall 10-28-2003 06:55 PM

Why ch-dvd-300

Hmmm...
Why are you guys choosing the 300 and not the 500 or the mid model?
Seems their top end one is only 20 more bucks. Why not?

totonho03 10-28-2003 08:37 PM

Hello:
Radio Shack has it on sale for 49 dollars.......

Otto

@all

You may want to visit http://www.cyberhome-help.de/ for a good forum on cyberhome players. Of course you's all probably know his site already:)

cheers,

EightBall 10-30-2003 09:05 PM

What about Kiss 450?

It supposedly plays Divx, 3/4/5 , 8O Xvid, 8O etc as well as all our formats.
Might be worth a look?

bigggt 12-26-2003 12:17 PM

If anyone in Canada is interested they have these for 59 bucks at Zellers where as i just paid 79 at radioshack

Fistandantilus 01-08-2004 11:26 PM

I just picked on of these up today from Wal-Mart for $59(Canada).So has anyone else had any problems with this player?I see at vcdhelp that alot of people complain about it dieing on them after a few months. :D

bigggt 01-09-2004 01:34 PM

Hi Fistandantilus

I just got one but i am still having problems with the jittery effect with kvcd higher resolutions, other people have been able to get rid of it but not me yet

Fistandantilus 01-15-2004 08:20 AM

Wow!!This thing does anything.Tried out some Divx's I had encoded to kvcd(Pal as well) and played them fine.Only thing was that didn't look as good as it did on my Philips 623 but who cares they are only avi encoded to kvcd and watchable enough for when I'm laying in bed.LOL.Yes I bought this player for the bedroom.

I also have some kvcd's that are 352x480 encoded as mpeg-2,muxed as mpeg, burned as Svcd(even though I have to use vcdeasy to creat image files because even with nero configured Nero won't recognize it or is syas it is to long in Video/Audio).Well I popped one of the 352x480 Mpeg-2 kvcd's in it and it played it perfectly fine(came up as SVCD).What a great little player and was 1/3 of the price of my philips 623(considering I bought it 2 years agao).Glad this forum was here and glad I found it at wal-mart here up in the Grat White North. :D

Clessy 01-20-2004 09:13 PM

Will there ever be...

Will I ever walk into walmart one day and see "plays KVCD" on the box?
Are you trying to push this to be comerical or just to kill of SVCD in the bootlegging scene?

Hahah! Is'nt that the truth!
Hiya KWAG..Long time no CQ... :seehearspeak: Been awhile, but I see your still putting out the best site on the Web..Congrats!

Was at the local Sam's club here in Chicago and noticed the Cyberhome 300 listing for $39.99. Pallots of them... Well I thought I'd hop over to your site and check out the compatibility, and it looks like it's a winner for your templates... Dependability might be an issue, but it looks like a win win situation at that price.

Oh!..and if you ever go public, save me some Preferred, por-favor...Thx! 8)

incredible 01-21-2004 02:19 PM

No manufacturer in the world (if he arguments the profesional way) would paste a sticker "plays KVCD".

Because KVCD is not a "ready made" standard, as it will be developed more and more ... like open source ;-)

So someone does enter the gop length, other do modify their max bitrates others do have their unique speical settings on KVCD Templates.
And that could be a shot in the back by themselfes if giving a guarantee on KVCD as a whole. Cause OneCDEncodings do not just belong to templates they're like a workout/philosophy

totonho03 01-23-2004 11:41 PM

Hello all:
I just saw the CyberHome 300 at Sams Club. They are selling it for 39.00 US dollars....What a bargain, even if it lasts 6 months

Regards

Otto

P.S.- I believe that the las time I was at Radio Shak, they were selling a CyberHome dvd recorder. I am not absolutely sure about this, I was in a hurry and did not take my time to check. I coul probably go to their site and learn about it..........
