For sale: Complete workflow = JVC S-VHS + TBC + capture card!

Updated April 2026

My workflows give you all 3 items needed for a quality capture: VCR> TBC > capture card

More specifically:
> recommended JVC S-VHS VCR with line TBC
> recommended Cypress/DataVideo type frame TBC
> recommended Pinnacle or ATI 600/clone USB capture card

These setups will do almost anything you need and want. VHS tapes will kneel before you!

Available:
- PAL: PM for referral.
- NTSC: My workflows are now on-demand, $4395, and include the recommended gear. Exact models vary based on availability at that time. ETA is 2-4 weeks for delivery.
- NTSC: 1 workflow currently available, $4395
----- includes JVC S-VHS with line TBC, Cypress frame TBC, choice of ATI/AIW/Pinnacle USB capture card

PM me if interested. :)

Workflows are fully tested as a set, and are not random items tossed together, as that often leads to workflow conflicts. These will be thoroughly tested, refurb'd/serviced where needed, then re-tested. Remember, my tests are not silly "it played a tape" or "it powers on" type nonsense you find on eBay/etc. I look for flaws with color, timing, the transport, alignment, audio, etc. This is equipment that I would use, and so it must meet my stringent expectations. Most of it is even in cosmetically excellent or flawless condition.

ARCHIVED TEXT:

These have been thoroughly tested, refurb'd/serviced where needed, then re-tested. Each is in perfect condition. Remember, my tests are not silly "it played a tape" or "it powers on" type nonsense you find on eBay/etc. I look for flaws with color, timing, the transport, alignment, audio, etc. This is equipment that I used, and it met my stringent expectations. Most of it is in cosmetically flawless condition.

For some strange reason, back in 2022 (and then stopping again in mid 2023), I'd gotten requests for "pictures", as if that tells you anything about these units. While the cosmetics on all my items is excellent, sometimes even like-new, it's the performance that matters. No mere photo can show that. You can already use Google to find photos of what these units look like, if you're curious. In the few instances where images are not readily available, all a photo would tell you is "Wow, a boring box/stick/VCR!" It's a waste of my time to take photos, and a waste of yours to view them. So I don't do "pictures". I'm not some Facebook/etc random person.

Sold out.
But PM me, and I'll see what can be located from within my network/contacts.
For the foreseeable future, all workflows are on-demand. Pricing approximately $4500 for NTSC workflows, $3500 for PAL. Perhaps less, if we seek budget gear. We can build your new workflow together!

** At least, that's the plan. I need to take a "gear break" for a while, to spend my time on health and family. And to redo this site. However, if I come across gear, or am offered gear by one of my contacts -- and it's something I can't turn down -- then I guess I'll have more workflows. But odds of that are extremely unlikely in 2025. The pandemic era has accelerated gear scarcity and gear failures. For several years now, it's been challenging to hunt down quality gear, and takes excessive work to refurbish it. I just can't spend time on that right now, my attention is needed elsewhere.

*** VCR and camcorder menus, and blue screens, are non-standard signals, not true NTSC or PAL. This can create problems for TBCs. These specific Cypress TBCs work well if you disable the JVC blue screens, and never enter the menu while capturing. ***

_____________________________

^ These are NTSC workflows. However, for PAL users, you can get the TBC and capture card from me, and then I'll help you select the best VCR from a reputable EU market. I can also acquire, test, realign, clean, and refurb (as needed) a PAL deck, as needed.

^^ Budget workflows, when available, are B+ JVCs, composite TBC or s-video/comp TBC(ish), and still recommended capture cards. These still do an admirable job, but whether you can use it heavily depends on your project sources.

Budget workflow note: While DataVideo TBC-1000s (and similar) are nice, here's a chance to get an entire workflow for the cost of just that TBC. Includes JVC S-VHS VCR with line TBC, a decent TBC option, and the capture card. Everything is refurbished, then tested as a kit; not simply random items shoved together. I'm somewhat proud of my workflows, from budget grade to premium, as these have helped so many users of this site, towards meeting their analog videotape conversion goals. Will you be next? I likely will not be assembling these types of non-premium workflows anymore, so don't miss out.

* Free upgrade to A+ if available. A+ is a very difficult grade to get. But I try!
** AIW is a $100 upgrade, if AIW is available.
As of Dec 2021, due to taking a much-needed break from most JVC S-VHS VCR refurb work, workflow availability is obviously also effected.

As of Feb 2020, my workflows are mostly built when ordered, and therefore have a 2-4 week lead time until completion/shipping. Availability of workflows also depends on availability of TBCs and VCRs, though I generally have a few of each on-hand. Workflow price ranges from $ (B+ gear) to $ (A+ premium gear).
My premium workflows/"kits" include:
- recommended VCR: A-/A+ JVC S-VHS with internal line TBC
- recommended TBC: external full-frame framesync TBC
- recommended USB capture card

NTSC:
0 @ $ workflow [I](JVC S-VHS A- with line TBC, DataVideo/Cypress type frame TBC, ATI 600 or Pinnacle USB capture card)
0 @ $ premium workflow (JVC S-VHS A+, DataVideo/Cypress TBC, choice of non-AIW** USB capture card)
0 @ $ mid-range workflow (JVC S-VHS A-, Cypress TBC B+, ATI 600/clone or Pinnacle USB capture card)
0 @ $ budget workflow (JVC S-VHS B+, composite Cypress TBC, ATI 600/clone or Pinnacle USB capture card)
0 @ $ budget workflow (JVC non-TBC S-VHS A+*, ES15 as minimalist TBC'ish, choice of non-AIW** USB capture card)

PAL:
0 @ $ premium workflow (PAL JVC S-VHS with line TBC, DataVideo/Cypress frame TBC, Pinnacle USB capture card)
0 @ $ (USD) workflow (PAL JVC S-VHS with line TBC, CDM frame TBC, Pinnacle PAL USB capture card)
0 @ $ (USD) budget workflow (PAL JVC S-VHS with line TBC, modded/preset DVK TBC(ish), ATI 600 or Pinnacle USB capture card)

Final workflows
- NTSC: 1 @ $ workflow (JVC S-VHS A+ with line TBC, Cypress B+ frame TBC***, Pinnacle USB capture card)
- PAL: 1 @ $ workflow (PAL JVC S-VHS with line TBC, Cypress B+ frame TBC***, Pinnacle PAL USB capture card)

NOTE: This is my last planned workflow for 2025.

Get the TBC and capture card from me, and I'll help you select the best deck from VCRShop/Branko. Deck selection is based on workflow pairing/compatibility, and for your exact VHS tape needs. Total PAL workflow cost ranges from $1850 to $3450 (USD).

IMPORTANT! As per this message, these are my final workflows for the foreseeable future. So this is last call, your final chance, to get one of my refurbished capture setups.

None. Out of stock.
I'm now completely out of frame TBCs, thus workflows cannot be made at this time.
For now, only JVC S-VHS VCRs with line TBC and capture cards are available.
Unknown if/when I will get more. PM me to be added to the waitlist. I've been saying for several years that TBCs are getting harder to find, and I'd eventually run out. That day is now.
At this exact moment, there are a few workflows, available in this marketplace, from other members. While I cannot vouch for those personally, I'd suggest anything in the marketplace is a vastly safer buy than eBay junk.

lordsmurf 12-24-2017 01:53 AM

Had some PMs. Yes, still available. :congrats:

More sets now gone. :read:

-- updated --

I started out with large stacks of hardware that filled a large walk-in closet.
Now it barely fills a cupboard.

Almost gone now.

F3LixBl0m 02-13-2018 01:29 PM

Do you have any left?

Photoartist69 02-15-2018 10:23 AM

Are these still available?

lordsmurf 02-15-2018 10:35 AM

Probably.

I need re-test some gear in workflows, doing that now. When it comes to workflows, not everything likes everything. Some cards dislike some TBCs/VCRs, some VCRs hate some TBCs/cards, etc. It requires lots of testing. It's not just random gear thrown together.

I have a few JVC VCRs left, and a refurb'd AG-1980P that I've decided to part with.
A couple of capture cards.
But on the TBC front, a new-in-box TBC-1000, and a few others.
My capture systems are all gone now.

I can maybe make one more workflow for $775, but the rest would be made up of some premium hardware (like the 1980), and it'll be into the $900s or more depending on what you get.

Right now, I'm trying to repair/refurb a pair of JVC SRs. I've been putting it off for years, but now it's time.

-- Update --

I've packaged together two final kits in a workflow.

And that'll be it for now. No more. Get it while available! :tiphat:

ExUSAF_AV 02-22-2018 10:30 AM

What comprises the kits you have remaining and do you have any stand-alone TBCs? The primary tapes I want to transfer are the SVHS tapes from the 90's that I made with the JVC GFS-550 SVHS camcorder. It took a full-sized tape and recorded SP. Any chance the camcorder could serve as the S-video source? The best I have outside those is my JVC HRS 8000U deck but, according to other posts on this site, it does not have a built in TBC. I doubt if the camcorder does either, but I'm not sure. I do have an ATI All-In-Wonder 7500 capture card that I might be able to rig with Windows 2000 or XP for capture if you have no capture cards left.

lordsmurf 02-22-2018 10:34 AM

Yes, PM me. :congrats:

mike4matt 02-27-2018 01:52 PM

What workflows do you have available? I don't need a capture card...just VCR and TBC

lordsmurf 03-07-2018 03:48 AM

Updated.
Note: The $775 workflow will not be split up.

ExUSAF_AV 03-07-2018 11:38 AM

What exactly is in the $775 workflow? Is it the JVC SR Professional S-VHS or the Panasonic AG-1980P?; TBC-1000 or something else?; AIW card or USB 600?

Let's continue this in PM. :wink2:

My AG-1980P are gone, never even put those on the marketplace. I withdrew another, decided not to sell for fear I'd never see another on in that condition should I want/need another one someday.

TBC is another model.

Not AIW AGP/PCI/PCIe/USB, either ATI 600 USB, or a specific Tevion (not any Tevion).

Do you have any pal-workflows avaiable for sale?

Still no PAL, having hard time repairing the VCR... :depressed:

... but still a couple NTSC left. :D

My USB ATI 600 capture cards will for sure work for PAL.
And then most of my TBCs will as well. All DataVideo, all Cypress.
Just no PAL VCR. However, if you get anything of mine, I'll help you track down a good unit!

F3LixBl0m 05-31-2018 05:23 AM

How much for a capture card and tbc that both works for PAL? I already have a PAL Vhs called JVC Super VHS ET S6700. Do you have anything that Will work smoothly together with that? Any thoughts about the VCR I have?

For a PAL-capable TBC, maybe. My last DataVideo is pending at the moment. I have a few more TBCs to refurb, but not sure how long before those are available.

PM me. :)

4/9 - I have enough pieces to build a few more workflows. My previous workflows had been sold out for 11 months, so gets these while I have them.

-- merged --

8/5 - Updated the list. :2cents:

After this year, I will likely only keep 2-3 pre-made workflows at any time. Anything else would be custom built. Probably no more individual VCRs and capture cards. Just TBCs and workflows. Still undecided at the moment. I can make a lot of nice workflows right now, so if you're on the fence about it, now is the time to act.

Sleeper XPL 08-21-2019 05:01 PM

Don't need the VCR, what is the cost for a good TBC + Capture setup?

jridge16 11-06-2019 12:00 AM

Lord-
Have anything at this time?

Sleeper XPL 11-15-2019 05:29 PM

Pinnacle 710 with windows 10 64bit Virtual Dub

Do you have a Pinnacle 710, and will this work with the ComWorld TBC that you sold me in Sept.

I'm using Virtual Dub and couldn't get this set up to work with Windows XP and the ATI AIW USB.

I can go back to Win 7-64 bit if this is a more stable platform. How much for the Pinnacle, and is it revision 1.0 or 2.0. What is the difference?

Just having problems with set up

Thank you!

PM'd. :congrats:

WinXP and Win7 are always most stable for capturing.
Vista, 8 and 10 all throw up roadblocks to a smooth trouble-free experience. This specific cards can work in Win8/10, but it's still not ideal.

lordsmurf 01-12-2020 02:26 AM

Very few workflows are now remaining. :2cents:

lordsmurf

What is the status of my workflow without the VCR (that is compatible with AG1980)?

joshchiodo 04-29-2020 08:51 PM

Hey there lordsmurf,

I'm based in Australia and looking at setting up a conversion system. I have a Blackmagic Video card which enables me to input video feeds through to my computer and into software - I'm just looking for reputable markets to grab a quality PAL VCR. Do you have any suggestions?

I would absolutely purchase a workflow from yourself, but I'm only missing a PAL VCR which you unfortunately do not sell!

Thanks,

JC

OldBrutus 06-17-2020 02:34 AM

I have a jvc S9911 Ive had for a while. using cheap vidbox usb capture and not pleased with the results. The JVC is starting to break down on me as well, so Im looking at repair or replacing. I have experienced all the issues you talk about when a less than ideal workflow is used. Never been happy with the results.

Do you have an workflows that would be in the $1200 budget range?

Dan316 06-26-2020 08:50 PM

lorsmurf-any TBC's left? After a hiatus I decided to redo my personal VHS conversions-this time do it properly with an external TBC after I read all these posts here. I bought the AG 1980P several years ago and wrote directly to DVD on a DMR-EH59GA-K recorder. Now I thought I would redo those tapes on to digital files and this time do a better job. I guess I am trying to see if an old dog can learn some new tricks. Jokes apart-can't seem to find a TBC anywhere. Thanks for all your help here.
Dan

Not true! :old:

Sometimes I do assemble PAL workflows, a few times per year. Anybody seeking a PAL workflow just needs to PM me. The ability to build really depends on the gear available at the time.

Right this moment, I can't built one. Have the capture card, can acquire the VCR, but no TBC. But that could change at any moment.

TBCs currently available are here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/mark...bc-1000-a.html
I also have a waiting list, but I may have to cap it soon.

Better workflow will be that AG1980 > TBC > lossless capture.
- good VCR
- looking for decent TBC
- but what about that capture card?

Panasonic DVD recorders were all pretty ghastly quality, even in XP. So many blocks, off colors, tinted colors, noise, weird artifacts and issues when TBC not in chain.

Dan316 06-30-2020 06:16 AM

Thank you lordsmurf. The workflow you suggested is the one I want to get set up and going and even got my old XP machine out of the closet as well. Only missing element now is the external TBC. Checked the link for the TBCs-guess currently you are out of any TBC(?). Could you PM me if and when you have any you have resurrected out of your old ones? Thanks much.

ctufts 07-13-2020 03:27 PM

Do you still have the external TBC available?

lordsmurf 07-30-2020 11:18 AM

I actually have one extra workflow again. :)

lordsmurf 02-13-2021 03:16 PM

Bump. :warning:

One workflow is available again! -- and it's a REALLY nice one!

TBCs and VCRs are limited again, which means workflows are limited.

lordsmurf 05-28-2021 05:33 PM

I reserved some gear for a few nice workflows. Get 'em while I got 'em.

POrwig 06-07-2021 06:48 PM

Could I get a quote

I was wondering if I could get a quote from anyone who has the a S-VHS VCR with internal TBC for either renting or selling.

I know some of you may not like the idea of renting out one of these VCR's, but I assure you, I take real pride and care in handling these things like they are priceless. I have two 1960's-1970's 8-track record player combo, my grandmother hardly ever used it and when she passed I asked to keep it. The reason I ask to rent one of these, is I have only two VHS tapes to transfer at the most and buying one of these for $800.00+ does not seem reasonable. Unless someone wants to transfer these VHS tapes for me, but these are the original 1994 VHS from a JC Penny camcorder which is no longer available. I do, however have a JVC HR-S3600U, which I know is not the best of the best.

latreche34 06-07-2021 11:47 PM

It is not about renting, it is about shipping, No one wants to have his precious VCR tortured by the shipping carriers, If the VCR is permanently damaged you may not even be able to find a replacement. What it starts as a rent it may end up with an expensive VCR purchase that doesn't even work.

lordsmurf 06-08-2021 12:47 AM

This is a marketplace listing, not a general discussion thread.

"Renting" a VCR is what I always suggest: buy it, use it, resell it. The gear holds value, you'll recoup costs. The onus is on you to take care of it. Not just care in using, but care in re-shipping. Extreme care in packing, insurance, tracking.

For transferring two VHS tapes, contact us: http://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/sendmessage.php

An ancient camcorder not being available doesn't matter. Those things were never good as VHS players. Even if the recording was misaligned (a common touted "reason" for using a bad old player), the best option is still to misalign a better deck to match. Noting that misalignment is not something novices should attempt, but rather something that somebody who specializes in restoration (either as hobby, or as pro).

MarioGuy789 09-06-2021 12:02 PM

Since I'm more than likely about to come across a good amount of money, I've finally decided to take you up on one of these workflows. I don't have the money yet but I'll most likely have it within a week or two. Simply put, I'm just interested in the VCR and the TBC, as I have already bought a card from you previously and still have it. In that time I have also acquired a Windows XP and 7 machine, not a great one, but one that will get the job done. You probably can't reserve equipment but I'm just letting you know I'm interested at this point. PM for further discussion.

Thanks.
