[SOLD] For sale: green AVT-8710, TBC-1000, more TBCs
Updated April 2026
TBCs currently only available in workflows (TBC + S-VHS VCR + USB capture card). For available workflows, see https://www.digitalFAQ.com/forum/mar...-workflow.html ________________ Notes: - All of my TBCs are refurb'd, pass clean signals, and often appear new/unused. - Price varies on model, and prices range from $1500 to $3500, based on model, features, and condition. - I also have some full workflows available (TBC + S-VHS VCR + USB capture card). * Notice: For whatever reason, in recent times, I've had inquiries from people looking only for DataVideo TBCs. While DataVideo was historically excellent, time has not been kind to those units. DataVideo isn't worth the hassle in the 2020s, not when these still-excellent Cypress exist. Several of my own DataVideos are in a failed state, and I'm now using Cypress in its place. ** VCR and camcorder menus, and blue screens, are non-standard signals, not true NTSC or PAL. This sometimes creates problems for TBCs and capture cards. These specific units will work well for you if either (1) you disable the JVC blue screens, and never enter the JVC menu while capturing, or (2) you use Panasonic S-VHS VCRs, such as the AG-1980P (or AG-1970, or PAL equivalents like NV-HS1000 and FS200). Be aware that not all JVC decks can have the blue screen disabled, so verify in the JVC menus before inquiring. Unknown if these will work with any other VCRs/cameras. Cypress units degraded with the next iteration of units, aka the "black" era (black AVT-8710, and clones), and those not only hated the menus and blue screens, but added excessive ghosting and frame sticking issues. ** ________________ None. Out of stock. I do have a reputable source for a few more units, $2500 range, PM me if interested, I'll connect buyer and seller. Yes, the specific Cypress and BV units that I sometimes have available are better than DataVideo units! I've been asked this in PM several times now. Noting that there are many not-good Cypress/BV out there in the wild, which is why those need to be bought from a trusted source (not eBay). For some strange reason, starting in 2022 (and then stopping again in mid 2023), I'd gotten requests for "pictures", as if that tells you anything about these units. While the cosmetics on all my items is excellent, often like-new, it's the performance that matters. No mere photo can show that. You can already use Google to find photos of what many TBC units look like, if you're curious. But also noting many non-identical TBCs (both bad and good) look identical, so it's misleading altogether. In the few instances where images are not readily available, all a photo would tell you is "Wow, a boring box!" It's a waste of my time to take photos, and a waste of yours to view them. So I don't do "pictures". I'm not some Facebook/etc random person. At this exact moment, all I'm seeing "in the wild" is failed/failing DataVideos (TBC-1000, -3000, -4000, etc) and black AVT-8710s on eBay. Also some hucksters falsely claiming that other random items/"TBCs" are "just as good as" (NOT!) DataVideo/AVT-8710 TBCs. And a few late-gen likely-noisy BVs. Do not buy those, do not be tempted to buy from eBay. At this exact moment, there are a few TBCs and workflows, available in this marketplace, from other members. While I cannot vouch for those personally, I'd suggest anything in the marketplace is a vastly safer buy than eBay junk. ________________ Sold: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - N/A for devices available now. I've never been completely of stock before. Unknown if/when I will get more. PM me to be added to the waitlist. I've been saying for several years that TBCs are getting harder to find, and I'd eventually run out. That day is now. At this exact moment, all I'm seeing out there is failed/failing DataVideos (TBC-1000, -3000, -4000, etc) and black AVT-8710s on eBay. All TBC-3000s now gone.
8710s and 1000s almost gone. If you're still waffling on whether you should get one, better make up your mind quick, :wink2: |
More gone.

Is the AVT-8710 still available?
|
I've released a few more of my Cypress units.

Could you give me a price on the DataVideo TBC-1000 including shipping to the UK?
I really appreciate your work here, I've just started out and this site has been a fantastic resource! :) Thanks, Richard. |
I have another pair available. :woot:
Sidegraded my personal DataVideo TBC gear, selling off these excellent extra units. - - Already had nibbles for both units, didn't think I'd need to even post them in the Marketplace, but no closed deals yet. So still up for grabs. First to PM me wins! :P |

How much are you asking for the AVT 8710?
|
Im looking for a TBC, how much for the AVT-8710?
|
Any other TBCs for sale? Seems to be the last piece of kit I need (wish I embarked on converting my tapes long ago when this stuff was more readily available).

The ES15+DVK TBC(ish) setup I have left is probably the best you'll come across. And it'll be both lower cost, and immediately available. For many scenarios, it's 99% as effective as full TBC. It's something we'd discuss in a PM. You'll need to tell me about your project, your sources, and I'll tell you if it will fit your needs. In some cases, namely anti-tearing, you'd have wanted an ES15 anyway, paired with a TBC. (As a word of warning, the DVKs I've seen from eBay are pretty fubar. Even the ES15 are not all that great. As with VCRs, "tested" and "works" means nothing. I've gotten PMs by burners buyers. The 2nd-biggest problem is that both units are usually incomplete, and tracking down the pieces can be a slow nuisance. And then when you do complete both, with working "accessories" (ie required parts), the issues aren't done yet. With the ES15, you have both the 000000 and caps-related issues to watch for. But the 1st-biggest problem is that DVKs were studio gear, and often abused. I've been able to resuscitate some units for those burned buyers, but some not. And then, after all that is done, and the gear actually works correctly, you still must modify the unit to work well in a capture scenario. Sometimes trying to DIY from scrapped eBay gear isn't wise, especially if you're not well versed in it.) |
Does the IDen IVT-7 have the Sony 7 PIN Y/C 688 Dub input and is it also PAL compatible?

I'm not sure about PAL. |
Any suggestions on what to use?? Seems the Datavideo and AVT options are out. I have a Panasonic ES15 but my video captures with it occasionally skips frames. I even tried capturing sans a capture device and just record a VHS to the DVD recorder and burn a disc with that. The test DVD still had a few skipped frames in spots. Should I try a different DVD recorder?? A different model?? The ES10 or another ES15?? I recently even tried the Hotronic AR31 to no avail. Didnt get a video signal. Are there any other TBC units suggested?? Are there any available?? For the record I need something with Composite video.
|
PM me. I have a composite Cypress TBC available. :)
|
Looks like I'm in the "need it" category for a TBC with S-Video. The struggle is real. :)

Have been putting off building a capture rig for over 15 years, with the theory that A>D hardware will mature a bit more, while ignoring the crates of VHS and miniDV footage in my climate controlled basement, Finally revisiting this, and it looks hardware peaked around 2005. Looking to build a rig from the ground up the right way, using reconditioned parts from a trusted vendor until I'm comfortable doing surgery and cleaning gear. |

I also sent you a PM. Thanks in advance!

Anyone have a TBC-1000 available??

That said, while the TBC-1000 is excellent, it's not the only TBC, nor even the end-all/be-all of TBCs. |
Well to be fair you said in a post above that you’ve added several TBC’s without actually specifying which ones they were. This was partly why I was asking since technically it wasn’t made fully clear you didn’t have it available. Second I never said that particular model was the best of the best. I was just seeking if you or anyone else in this thread had one available.

Success! I've repaired a few units, those are now available. :)

Do you know if I.DEN IVT-7 can transcode U-mactic Y/C 688 to S-VHS Y/C 358? Do you have a scan of the manual?
