Just about all manufacturers hype their products, citing best case life data. What you will experience in real life use will be different, probably substantially less.
If you are that concerned, obtain CD/DVD diagnostic software and a calibration/test-quality drive. Make two copies of every archive media (one is a back-up). Then every 6 months to a year test all your archive media for correctable read errors. When the number of errors starts to increase make a new archive copy (i.e., before the errors become uncorrectable). While not a 100& guarantee that you will not lose data 20 years from now, it is a significant step toward that goal. I have no specific recommendations as to which software or drives to buy. |
In the case of DVD + R 16x Philips (ID: CMC MAG M01) what is the true maximum life expectancy useful it? I do not know what dye this dvd disc uses
The CMC said it was 30 ~ 50 years under normal storage conditions, the more you said that this information is a lie |
They gave you a range of 30-50 years at 25C and 50% RH.
Your conditions are different - up to 10C warmer and fluctuation temperature humidity. That might cut it to 12-20 years. If your disks also are being handled. played, viewed, etc. that would cut it even more. There is no way anyone here can predict it. So back-up and test. If that is not a satisfactory answer, then consider visiting forums that specialize in optical media Good day and good luck. |
the information on the DVD disc philips 30-50 years at 25C and 50% RH to CMC gave me is true or false? is a lie of them?
what are the best optical media forums? |
The kind of info you seek isn't going to be found on any forum. Or online at all. Or offline at all. You're asking for that which does not exist. If I could see the future, I'd be rich. But I'm not.
You located the best media: Taiyo Yuden. Use it. |
I answer only this doubt: the information on the DVD+R 16x disc philips 30~50 years at 25C and 50% RH me passed to CMC is true or false? is a lie of Them?
