JVC SR-MV45 head drum grinding noise?
 

Recently got a Smurf-Refurb'd workflow, but after playing a tape (poorly, many speed issues evident in the audio), it rewound at barely above real time speed, and it's now in a POST fail state and will not start for long enough to eject the tape that is loaded. The head drum is also making a horrible grinding sound while it's on. This doesn't appear to be because of the tape on it, because even when manually unthreading the tape, it persists. Does anyone have knowledge/instructions on how to remove the stuck tape and possibly reseat and replace the head drum?

For others reading, we've discussed this in email, and are posting about it for added ideas. Something happened in shipping, and I'm not yet quite sure what. Spare parts are available as needed. And I'll be dismantling a unit on my end, to write up some instructions on tape removal, and further troubleshooting steps.
