Virtualdub HuffYUV vs. FFV1 (ffmpeg)?

Hi all:

I'm about to start capturing around 50 family VHS tapes and have everything working with Virtualdub + HuffYUV. I'm now considering using FFV1/ffmpeg instead to save space. I decided to start testing and can not for the life of me find where to download the plugins for Virtualdub. All of the links I have found are outdated.

A few questions...

1. Is FFV1 better for archiving original lossless video vs HuffYUV?

2. Any tips on where I can download the plugin files for FFV1?

3. At some point I will be editing video in Final Cut. As both of these codecs are natively functional on the Mac, any other options I should be looking at?

Thanks!

You might try Virtualdub2. It has plugin support for FFV1 (...custom made (based on FFMPEG) with basic options). Also, you could try to create an external encoder within Virtualdub.

You can download the ffv1 codec from here: https://www.videohelp.com/software/ffdshow
