Sony Hi8 TBC, DNR, edit mode, capture settings?
Hello,
Own a NTSC CCD-TRV87 Sony Hi-8 camcorder. It's connected to a Datavideo TBC-1000 and ATI AIW AGP capture card. I am ready to capture video8 tapes, I understand the internal TBC menu option should be enabled when capturing. In the menu should DNR and edit mode also be enabled or should either or both be disabled? I have searched through this forum and while I have seen a couple of posts here and there, I have not seen a conclusive response from forum members and especially LS on these two options while capturing from a Sony camcorder. Does it matter? The purpose of the capturing is for digital archival using a lossless format and at a later time editing/digital cleanup on a more modern machine. The manual defines each feature as follows: DNR - "ON - To reduce picture noise" DNR - "OFF - To reduce a conspicuous afterimage when the picture has a lot of movement" Edit - "OFF - " (no description) Edit - "ON - To minimize picture deterioration when editing" |
Ideally TBC, DNR and EDIT should all be enabled, turn them off only if they cause problems.

Here's a recent thread where these settings are discussed in some detail. Post #8 is particularly interesting. The bottom line seems to be: TBC = ON (in most cases) and for the other 2 settings, do what works best for you and your tapes.
