Beware of the SingMai scammer!
 

A while ago I traded a few messages with Dan and after he died his wife was kind enough to get back to me.
I just got DM from that same account and it's Mrs. Ogilvie (supposedly) looking for money to aid in his medical bills.
Almost certainly a fraud. Did anyone else get any messages? I know a few of you probably had some contact.

I haven't gotten any e-mail, It will be stupid for his widow to do such a thing, Either her e-mail got hacked or one of their former employees is pulling a nasty trick to get some easy cash.

It’s a total hack job, similar to the Nigerian prince scam, fool me once…

How do you know the DM is from the same e-mail holder? The only way to know for sure it's the same account is if you got a DM from him previously on the same platform (Text message, Viber, WhatsApp ...etc), e-mails and phone numbers are two separate things and having the same name means nothing.

This is the Messenger I used to contact Dan, our conversations are there.

When you sell IP, you involve lawyers and draft contracts. No exceptions, the end, period.

Agree to a price. But state that a lawyer must draft legal documents for the purchase. Let's see what you get. :laugh:

As tempting as it may be to attempt to get the SingMai docs, you have no idea how legit those are, or how final, or complete, or anything else. (Because we do know SingMai SM03 was more failure than not, it never worked as desired. It was seemingly in an eternal R&D.) Odds are the scammer will just take money, not send anything. And that ignores the fact that it's stolen IP, so you probably can't use it anyway.

A "smart" scammer will sell you some docs, then "find more" for more money in a few weeks. So be sure to mention to the scammer that any legal document must give you full rights to all documents, current or future (ie, "found" later), pertaining to the SingMai business. Trying to draft that in legalese will probably break the scammer's brain.

I never believed in SingMai (the goals were too lofty), and I never knew Dan. And yet, I do hope he RIP.

This scammer is a tarnish to his name. :(

I agree, sad images. And yet, it still proves nothing -- especially not in our current "generative AI" age. That may not even be him. I'd have to see the original images, EXIF and all.

The easiest way to de-scam these situations is to involve trusted 3rd parties.

Unfortunately, even if this was legit, without Dan none of his SM03 business docs or equipment has any real value. It's just a still-born project with zero success record. SM03 was essentially his hobby project, that he hoped to profit from, but it never happened. Again, he had a lofty goal, stuck in eternal R&D. I'm not aware that a single unit was ever shipped to anybody. Edit: See posts on pg2.

It would be foolish to buy this IP for more than a token amount. At worst, a contract for limited royalties, should it even succeed in a saleable product. But I highly, highly doubt it.

Got a selfie with a license! And that appears to be Dan in the bed in other photos, his healthy photos are on the internet.

Hello, I am Ploy's nephew. If you say that the company has never been successful and has no sales, I would say that is not true because I have seen everything since he moved the office to Thailand, Dan sold products to Chinese customers.
And many other companies, I would like to find people who are interested and have used the product to produce and develop it further.
Thank you for your interest and hope you understand. Widows who have to find money to pay off credit card debt and medical expenses are responsible for the following:

So let's review:
- Dan dies about a year ago, in 2024.
- You randomly get a "messenger" contact, a year later in 2025, begging for money for "medical bills".
- But he's been gone for a year, and medical bills are still coming? And he lived in a country with a modern universal health coverage (unlike ours, which can bankrupt you from a single incident).
- Dan was Scottish (UK), but now Thailand is mentioned? And asking for £ (GBP), instead of USD or local currency?
- Then you're offered unknown/unvetted stuff in exchange for money.

Logistics note: Also, thanks to Trump, it's almost impossible to import anything right now anyway. Most postal services are frozen, not delivering packages into U.S. (I have stuff trapped outside the U.S. now.) Huge tariff taxes when you actually do. Social media is abuzz with the insanity of (for example) buying items for $50, and getting $200 import bills, so $250 total for $50 item. So even if this is legit, her timing could not have been worse. It's almost impossible to get goods here now, be it Scotland or Thailand.

So at worse: scam.
At best: the widow has handled this situation horribly.

My BS-o-meter is at 9 of 10.

When most of us discuss "SingMai", we only refer to the SM03. As far as anybody knows, it never actually existed. The other parts of the business, or other devices, are of no interest to members of this site (and even less to VideoHelp.com members).

I'm still not believing any of this. Legitimate conversations don't start how this one did. :no2:

If you want to prove it, then send me an SM03 (or the/a prototype), via UPS. Once it arrives, I'll reimburse you for the shipping, as well as help you locate an IP buyer. Do you want to do that? Nobody knows who you are. They know who I am.

Previously, after Dan's death, this widow had trusted her friend and was scammed out of a large sum of money, unable to even open Dan's computer. Later, she tried asking me. I went to her house and managed to access the computer for which she didn't know the password. Dan had left behind only a six-digit banking app transaction code, which I had cleared, allowing me to see all of her singmai company information As for her request for help and requesting it in pounds, she needed to transfer the money into Dan's account in the UK to automatically deduct from her debt. As for medical treatment, the government had only provided some assistance. And the rest she has to pay. As for AI or fraud, if you don't believe it, no one can blame you. That's a personal opinion. And selling company data, there are lawyers who handle the legal paperwork.

Thank you for your interest in widows who are left to earn money alone to continue paying off debts.

All (any) rights to act on the deceased's accounts end upon the deceased's death. Any actions taken with the deceased's accounts after his death are a criminal offense. And a serious one. So it's all bullshit.

Who the hell is Jangrockwood to speak in the name of a family? There are legal ways to liquidate a company assets, Has she gone through that process? If so, can she show us some auction dates and websites, she can also setup meetings with interested people to discuss such matters in private, not begging for money through a messaging system.
