Capture workflow, still getting inserted frames?
Did a test capture with the 1980, 1 hour in no inserts nor drops.
Did another with the VS30U and a different tape, got 3 inserts an hour or so in. Been getting inserts no matter the Pinnacle nor computer with the second setup. Basically dealt with this same situation before. Redid the capture with preview mode turned off, no inserts that time. Gonna try the same test again to see if that's the case still. If I need to keep VDub preview off to prevent frame inserts then I'd rather do that than to remove the Cypress TBC or disable dropped/insert reporting. Do you have any suggestions for an S-Video splitter? Only other 'live preview' I can do is use the composite output of the VS30U and hook that up to a Sony camcorder. But the 1980/MV45U only have S-Video out. This wouldn't be an issue with 8mm/Hi8 since I can just use the camcorder viewfinder as is

I'm not sure where the issue is here.
I could never capture with preview. I must know what's happening at all times. You can ruining tapes by running without seeing a live preview. The VS30 at least gives dual outputs, so one for card, one for a TV (or another capture system as previewer). s-video splitter not suggested. 1980/MV45 can have composite output for TV or preview system. Are all 3 inserts in a row? Run an Avisynth script to search for inserts. This may be source-based nothingburger. |
Put a BNC to RCA adapter on the Video port.

Yeah I dunno where the issue lies, probably for that example because of the exact combination of VCR and tape.
Yes the 3 inserts happened one after another. Did another capture where preview mode was turned off, no inserts were reported once again. Avisynth script wasn't need, can find reported dropped frames in VirtualDub by using ctrl + ] and ctrl + [ So if I need to keep preview mode turned off then so be it. Would rather do that than take out the external TBC or disable insert/drop reporting. Made that question before I asked around, was suggested a BNC to RCA adapter so I plan on grabbing that. Just gonna use the small camcorder viewfinder as another monitor, ain't much but it's something. I do have another computer and Pinnacle card so I could use that as a live previewer if I had enough space. |
