JVC SR-V101US vs SR-V10U S-VHS -- any good?

Quote:

I just ordered two more JVC decks from ebay,
Is the SR-V101US any good?
The SR-V101U is the second release of the SR-V10. It's fine. Aside from mostly cosmetic changes to the case, it's the same machine. I think the transport is identical, although some VCR dissecting members here may known otherwise. (We have a few who do this, both PAL and NTSC members.)

The SR-V10 was itself a next release of the 7000 line, after HR-S7900. The "Professional" label is just that -- a label. I can only guess that it was a last attempt to ditch the "prosumer" label it had given itself while its competitors had not -- including those who simply re-branded JVC gear. (Amusing trivia!)

Watch for cheap purchases from eBay...
At those kinds of prices, you always have to ask yourself what's wrong with them -- be it something obvious like malfunctioning insert/eject from the transport system, failure of TBC or filters, susceptibility to power noises due to damaged power supply, or ever head damage that would cause low-quality playback (possibly even damage to your tapes!!!) So ..... yeah. On eBay, you'll more often run into liars/shysters than you will a person who is giving away something at pennies on the dollar. That just really does not happen anymore -- 10 years ago, yes, but not now.

Hope that clarifies it. :)
