This [SOLVED] post is partly wrong, you don't need the whole syswow64 + run as admin stuff
+ On Windows x32, just download HUFFYUV x32 and right-click the inf file and Install (and use VirtualDub x32) + On Windows x64, just download HUFFYUV x64 and right-click the inf file and Install (and use VirtualDub x64) you need the hack ONLY to use HUFFYUV x32 on Windows x64 !!! |
Ugh, still doesn't show up under compression in Virtual Dub.

What worked for in Windows 7 64-bit was using the instructions i post 3, but switching to the 64-bit huffyuv codec and installing it in system32 using CMD with admin rights.
The command looked like this: 1. Browsed to c:\windows\system32\ 2. Typed in: runddll32.exe setupapi.dll InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 0 c:\huffyuv64\huffyuv.inf My huffyuv 64-bit .dll and .inf was located in a folder called huffyuv64 on my c-drive. Suddenly huffy showed up i Vdub. Time to capture =) Hope this can help someone out there. |
I'd just like to thank the last three posters. :)
Sometimes the instructions don't always work 100% the same from person to person. So thanks for sharing your added failings and successes. We'll try to incorporate some if/then/and/but type statements into the third posts that discusses the available methods. Much of this is just due to the variations of Windows, as well as variations in how it can be set up. :o Thanks, Microsoft! |

Tested and working with Windows 10 RC
Couldn't get to work on full copy of Windows 10, but I figured it out by accident - I dragged and dropped into the SysWOW64 folder manually and it worked. |
I did new windows 7 64bit installation, Trying to install HuffYUV, the installation returned no errors but HuffYUV still don't show up on VDUB, I had it working before just don't know why this time, It must have been something really stupid that I have overlooked.
|
Look at my post above - it works with 7, 8, and 10 - tested.
|
The file is copied and checked it's there otherwise I would have gotten an error message, still not listed in vertdub yet.
Ok there goes the stupid thing, My vertdub is 64bit version, so installed HuffYUV64 and it showed up in vertdub just like that. |
I recently installed Huffyuv on my new Skylake desktop build, and had no problems. I followed the guide early on in this post.
VirtualDub has a 64-bit build now? I wasn't aware. Still using 32-bit here. |
I've had Vertdub 64 bit for quit awhile now, don't remember exactly when, But I don't think there ais ny difference in performance.

I understand this is an old thread, but I just wanted to clarify that there was a recent tutorial that covered installing HuffYUV 32 bit on a 64 bit PC.
You would pretty much follow everything that the 3rd post stated but would this time use the following command: rundll32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSectio n DefaultInstall 0 C:\huffyuv-2.1.1\huffyuv.inf Note that you would replace the "C:\huffyuv-2.1.1" with wherever you placed it. You should also replace "huffyuv-2.1.1" with whatever huffyuv filename you have. I just used this filename due to the fact that I installed it off of another (reliable) website). Just follow this video and you'll get it working on Win7 64, plus the video is quite entertaining!

A little/lot help here please, with installing HuffyUV in Windows 7. I've tried installing/un-installing (several times) all versions of HuffyUV available from this forum. I've followed the instructions given (https://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/video-conversion/2193-cannot-install-huffyuv.html). Un-rared, un-zipped several times. I'm clearly missing something... The attached are the errors I get, that are pretty much the same with all of my attempts. My end goal is to convert VHS to a "standard mp4 format h264+aac, resolution: keep origin" (whatever that means). Currently using a JVC HR-S7800U, Windows 7 and 10 and Elgato's Video Capture USB dongle (which makes the conversion pretty painless). It would be nice to get a higher quality end product. Thanks in advance, 916Area52 Attachment 18033 Attachment 18034 |
Use Hoffmand’s installer to get the original 32 bit version of Huffy. Don’t use multithread.

tobylars83 "So do this then? video-codec-installers A modern pair of MS-Windows installers (x86/x64) for the HuffYUV lossless video codec (fourcc code HFYU) version 2.1.1, replacing the .inf install script and complicated installation instructions for recent versions of Windows. Installation To install: Download the .msi file that matches your VirtualDub ('x86' or 'x64') from releases. Press the Windows key, type cmd, find the "Command Prompt" App, and click "Run As Administrator". In the command prompt, switch to the directory where you downloaded the .msi file, then type in the name of the .msi file to run it. For example: cd C:\Users\hofmand\Downloads HuffYUV_x86_v2_1_1.msi If it says, "Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting.", click on "More info" and then "Run anyway"." This information relieved a LOT of heartburn and anxiety. As I did not see the file needed here. I got the file needed from github_dot_com/hofmand/video-codec-installers/releases. For this project I'm using a I-O Data GV-USB2. If I find that the results would warrant the use of a better card, I'll be sure to visit the "Marketplace" here. Thanks again, 916Area52 |
The thanks on that belongs to Hoffmand for making the installer.
What capture card are you using? Quote:

I have been using the current setup of two JVC HR-S7800U VCR's, one on a Windows 7 computer and the other one on a Windows 10 computer along with a/an Elgato Video Capture USB dongle for each. Which makes the VHS capture to a "standard mp4 format h264+aac, resolution: keep origin" (whatever that means) conversion pretty painless. I would like to ditch the Elgato method for a process that would yield a better end result for a higher quality mp4 format/capture. I've muddled through the settings of VirtualDub 1.9, VirtualDub2 and amarectv310 using a JVC HR-S7800U VCR and a Windows 7 computer along with an I-O Data GV-USB2 capture device. I have yet been able to go from "capture AVI" to a mp4 format. I came the closest in VirtualDub2. Please see attached... Thanks in advance, 916Area52 |
