Size increase
 

I used this guide step by step to create a kvcd. Problem is that the original avi file is 713 meg and after following the instructions the same avi file became 913 meg. I'm pretty sure that I can't fit this on a 80 minute cd. The avi file is 107 minutes long. How can I reduce the file size to fit on an 80 minute cd? Thanks for any help.

Look further in the site and give a look to the tool called CQMATIC.
It is used to predicate the sier of the final video and avoid to have one that is too big.

If so please help me locate it, I have searched but the search always pulls up about 2,000 pages(forums, posts, whatever it is...)

Following Track Error
 

I'm getting a "following track error" when I try to burn the first KVCD I made using the Idiot's Guide.

Anyone knows what does it means and what should I do to prevent this?

Aren't you trying to burn more than 79'57 (807 MB) ? If yes, your burner do not support overburn.
Else... tell us which software you are using.

You are the best! After searching the net for two days, after returning some cd-r's, after exchanging brands with no success...you just gave me the solution, and I couldn't believe how easy it was. I'm using nero 6 and the overburn option was checked (strange is that I've used this feature before with no problems). When I unchecked it, the KVCD was burn free of problems. And my file has less than 500MB!

This is my first post and I hope someone can help me out. I followed the "Idiots Guide" and I do good up to the point of muxing. Here's the deal....I have a .m1v file created using the 120 minute template for TMPGenc approx. 360MB in size, and I have a .mp2 file created using virtual dub & headac3he approx. 155MB in size(44.1/dual/112). My problem comes when I try to mux them, I end up with an .mpg file that is just under a gig (approx. 960MB). The resulting file is quite good quality, and there are no synch issues, its just too big. I tried to author a KVCD using a more complex guide I found in the forums, but I get lost when they start talking about moviestacker and scripts. The movie I am trying to convert is almost DVD quality so it should make an excellent KVCD if I can get past this point. Sorry if my post is long, but any help would be appreciated.

How can you have such big audio file with such little video file ?
155 Mb audio at 112 Kbit/s gives an audio length about 3 HOURS !
You have a problem there, for sure !

Note: I wonder if I won't remove this guide. Too much problems.

Well I also created the .mp2 using the technique outlined in the"Guide" just using TMPGenc and ended up with a file that was only 60MB in size, but the result was identical. I gather from your post that I am on the right track, and my issue lies with the audio file (or is it the muxing?). Is that a good assumption? I also used a program called "acp", an all-in-one program to create KVCD using about a 1/2 dozen different programs, it did the same darn thing (just much faster than I did it myself). I've got a ton of movies to Konvert, if I could just get 1 success I'd be on my way. I've been trying to convert this one movie for about a month, done a sh**load of reading (most of here on the forums) but alot of it is very complicated. I'm not stupid, I can build computers in my sleep, I've got an AAS in electronics, but I'm a hardware guy not a software guy, and all the scripting talk throws my brain into a frenzy. Help me I've fallen and can't get up! ;-)

Okay, le's do it setp by step :

- What is the length in minute of your video ?
- What is the video file size ?
- What is the audio file size ?
- What is the muxed fiel size ?
- What do you use for muxing ? Software version is important here.

Okay here we go.

Movie length-- 94 min
Original AVI size--718MB(.avi)
Encoded Video size--360MB(.m1v)--using tmpg
Encoded Audio size--60MB(.mp2) -- using tmpg
Muxed File size--926MB(.mpg)--using tmpg

These are all approximate sizes as I have deleted all but original AVI, but they are very very close approximations. I haven't given up, just going to start over....again.

This is the ONLY ONE version to not use because it is buggy in the muxing part. Use either 2.58 or 2.510 and above.

Join the opportunity to change a your settings. 360 Mb (half a CD 80 min) for a movie of 94 min long... it's few !!!

Is it what you want to obtain ? A movie that will fit on half a CD ?
The uqlity will be poor compared to what you can have by using all the CD !

What settings do I change to make better Quality? Do I use the K(S)VCD template for tmpgenc? My goal is to make 94 minute video fit on 1 80 minute cd-r at best possible quality.

Use the KVCDx3 template and use CQmatic to find the best CQ value for your work.

Go in cqmatic section of the forum. All is there.

really? i always used the kvcd cb 120 min. ntsc-film template for that size. on an avi under 120 min. we should use the kvcdx3 template, or is that only for skvcd?

Ok after trying to do it on my own, and failing miserably, I again tried that program "acp". With the earlier version of TMPGEnc you told me to use it worked perfectly. The quality is as good as the original AVI file (actually looks better to me even though I know thats not possible :wink: ), and all I had to do was tell it what I wanted. Thats my kind of program. Now I can clear out my HD to make room for more stuff thanks to you.
