Kwag, on the latest script, I'm curious...
Why BicubicResize?? Wouldn't LanczosResize bring out more detail? |

FYI:
When downloading unfilter be sure to pick the old unfilter.dll as the newer one supports avisynth 2.5 only. -Yoda |
Hi Kwag,
I really suggest to add the DCTFilter.I will upload some samples with some dark scenes and then you can judge it. With DCTFilter you can raise the CQ up to 4 and in my eyes there's no Change of quality. |
I tried DCTFilter yesterday, but it bombed on me on AviSynth 2.51. I'll try to figure out the problem later today, and make some HDTV and/or Vdub screenshot comparisons

kwag,
In general, is everyone using Avisynth 2.51? -Yoda |
Most people are still using 2.0x.
I just started doing some tests with 2.51. It's (barely) faster that 2.08, at least on my machine ( Pentium 4 @1.6Ghz). -kwag |
I have to say...using the latest script with the KVCD-CQ-352x480-_NTSCFilm_-PLUS.mcf (in MPEG2 format)
template, on "Band of Brothers" CD3 part6 looks VERY good to me! With test strips (CQ=59) viewed on our 37" Mitsubishi TV (non-HDTV) using an Apex 1100w (1meg) these appear to be my best encodes (at that rez) to date. (I`d like to use the X3 MPEG2 template...but my Apex doesn`t like it, as demonstrated with Kwag`s test downloads and a couple of my own) Sript used: Mpeg2Source("H:\DvD Rips\Band of Brothers\Band of Brothers CD3\BOB CD3-part-2\BoB-cd3-part2.d2v") GripCrop( width= 352, height=480, overscan=0 ) GripSize(resizer="BicubicResize") unfilter(50,50) temporalsmoother(1,2) mergechroma(blur(1.58)) mergeluma(blur(0.4)) GripBorders() I`m using Avisynth 2.08, about 3.5hrs to encode using P4 1.7ghz. For this...I`m trying TMPGEnc (v2.510) internal audio engine at 112 (to make comparison) Any comments, or suggestions are appreciated. ********************************* The Devil....is in the Details |
Has anybody tried this script on a higher-res encode, say 704x480? I'll try it in about, oh, 7 hours :)

Hey Kwag and friends,
There are occasional movies that I like to back up onto a DVD for compatability purposes between different players. Generally I back up 2 or 3 titles to 1 DVD+R. That being said, are their optimal filter settings (tweaks) that can be done in lieu of prediction based results of the larger file size which derives a larger CQ value. Like everyone I looking for optimum quality / speed. I know there is somebody out there that has tried backing up 6 hours of video on a DVD @ 704x480 or 720x480. I prefer full D1. Thanks Racer99 |
Morning guys!
I can't seem to get UnFilter working. And from what I have read, I seem to be the only one having trouble? I'm using AviSynth 2.07. Is that too old or what? Please, help me. I'm dying to try Kwag's new script out!
|
it works perfectly with avisynth 2.08
never used it with 2.07 |
Hi audioslave,
You can use "sharpen( 0.5 )" instead of unfilter. It's just a little slower :) -kwag |
Okay, I'll try sharpen. But does anyone know why unfilter won't work?

did you download the unfilter.dll? |
Hmm...
Seems when I unpacked the Unfilter.dll it created a folder in my AviSynth folder... Anyway, I now moved the dll file to where it's supposed to be and everything works like a charm! Sorry, for taking up your precious coding time... Thanks again! |

i´ve put all my filters in the moviestacker - filter directory |
@BCHteam, what settings are you using for DCTfilter?? Could you post them for me?

Just use this .dll (it"s the one for the avisynth 2.0x versions) :) |
