Thanks for the link.

But anyway:

Bug:
  • MencodeMe hangs up if mplayer it is not in mencodeme folder. It hangs up in a special way. We can press buttons but encode and preview keeps grayed, stop can be pressed but do nothing.
Ideas:
  • Save settings as default.
  • In open dialog, show all supported files as default.

Quoting vmesquita, from first page of this thread:
"You also need to put a mencoder and mplayer binary in the same folder."

But does it even start encoding in your case?
Because I have mencodeme in a different folder than mencoder/mplayer and it starts encoding but it's slower than usual.
I'd say it's half as fast as usually and it made my pc reboot itself.
Nothing that ever happened with bat and ini file only...
Maybe the log box is doing that.
Maybe the new mencoder build.
Let's see if I can find why.
Cheers

Kwag, don't take it in such way. I had read all thread and don't remembered that. Further than this, with time it will be much people that uses mencodeme and not had read "first page of this thread". For this people it would be better that mencoderme could have a readmefirst. I think just now too, that for these people and for other too it would be better 2 releases 1 with mencoder.exe and mplayer.exe and other without it (or maybe only one full packet, in spit that other ppl don't like this last one)
I only want to help. It was not for me (finally yes), as I searched and downoloaded a mplayer version that not worked, before rds link.
If you think that in any way i'm hussling in this thread, please tell me and I would try be more carefull with my posts.

Edited: Karl reply is not necessary, don't worry.

Just Relaxing: ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, all of you can start laughing for a wile. I just had needed mplayer installer in my HD.

I beg your pardon. I don't understand english connotation so good as I would wish.

rds_correia 04-24-2004 08:40 PM

Hmm,
Not trying to write on kwag's behalf Prodater but, I saw that post by kwag as a aid for all of us.
He knows the thread is very long now, and he knows many people have already forgotten what's written in the first 5 or 10 pages.
I speak for myself: I have forgotten.
Eventually my problem is different than yours but I still had a crash from my WinXP.
So I'll go by Vmesquita's 1st post and I'll put everything in the same folder for safety.
And I should say that you were helping when you posted your problem.
No hussling from your side for sure.
I just interpreted kwag's post as a help for both of us and other guys.
BTW did it work on your side?
Cheers

rds_correia 04-24-2004 08:44 PM

Gee,
Prodater don't do that again :D
Everybody knows this has been difficult days here :wink:
If you do that again I'll strike you with 2 months without posting here :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: (just kidding of course)
Anyway it work did it?
I wonder why I don't need to have everything in the same folder :?:
Cheers

kwag 04-24-2004 08:46 PM

@Vmesquita,

Coud you add a VBV buffer size override in the GUI :?:
I find that for high resolutions (ex: 704x480), the VBV value is too low, when selection *->KVCD presets.
The VBV size is fine for low resolution, so it would be good option to have a selectable VBV value, or if you can automatically select a VBV value, depending on the resolution.
Example: 352x240 is 40, 352x480 and 480x480 is 112, anything over that, it's 224

-kwag

vmesquita 04-24-2004 08:59 PM

@rds_correia
Everything (MEncodeme.exe, mplayer.exe and mencoder.exe) must be in the same folder.

@kwag
If this parameter is set according to resolution, that it's better make it automatic. I just didn't knew how to set:
Quote:

Is there anything else I should know to automatically set this?

Without mplayer it start encoding, and without filter (neither avs nor mencoder) 1 pass rate = 30 fps (in P3 450).

I don't think so :!:
It's just that I see many quantization errors (blinks) when you use a low VBV value on high resolutions.
But when I choose your KSVCD settings, I don't see the errors, because the VBV is set higher.
You have a fixed value for MPEG-1. Change it the same way you do as for MPEG-2, depending on the resilution, adjust the VBV value.
The values I gave above, should be the correct values for each resolution.

Edit: 528X and 544X should also be 112 :!:

@VM
Please, include this values in a help file (with more thinks too of course) and a button for that. --> todo: Help file.

todo: Can you include commands buttons in preview window or in mencodeme window.
I request that for... you will see.
:idea: :idea: :idea: :idea: :idea: :idea: :idea: :idea:

You can open 2 (or more if you machine could) MencodeMe instances and preview both simultaneosuly (waiting to first player begin, related with temp.conf. It would be wonderfull if you can pause playing in same frame and begin to play almost together. Better than this, it would be possible a "play together from frame" control?
Also you can encode 2 or more simultaneous files.
Now my logs:

@ VMesquita

I just made an example avi (sliced) via makeavis and used in MencoderME the 2pass option ...( I wanted to see a bitrate/Q behaviour in comparison 1pass/2pass on a sliced sample).

... Could it be that since you write an "encode.bat" the 2nd pass wont start??

What "cliping 1 dct coefficents to..." means? Can I use this encoded file for making an qualified KVCD ?

black prince 04-25-2004 06:27 AM

@vmesquita,

Just tried MEncoderME v0.22 and when encoding 2pass I get stack_error
and program ends immediately without finishing?
I decided to use 1pass and to encode without avs motion adaptive script.
I used the batch file generated by MEncoder "encode.bat"

My avs scritp and results are as follows:

Quote:

LoadPlugin("c:\DVD BACKUP\4 - MOVIESTACKER\Filters25\MPEG2Dec3.dll")
Mpeg2Source("F:\Temp\movie.d2v")
1) video file size prediction was 745mb with audio 42mb (64kbps).
The actual file size was 733mb with 12mb overhead = 745mb. Perfect!! :D
The MA script must be effecting quantizer which limits file size somehow :roll:

2) There were changes in picture quality. More blockiness, less gibbs
effects, frames were dropped as before (probably that dct error or
underflow error) :roll:

3) Generally not bad 8) It's getting there.

I have questions:

1) which MEncoder filter effects blockiness??

2) What is causing underflow error and dct errors. The encoder is
dropping these frames.

Thanks

@Prodater64
I understand your idea, but unfortunatelly, I hvae no control over the frames being shown by mplayer. I just launch the player and that's it. :(

@incredible
The batch is used for nothing internally, it's only for debugging. But I'll check if 2pass is still working, I may have made a mistake when implementing preview.

@mbaluda
Looks like your bitrate was too low for some reason. Please post your complete logfile.

@Prodater64
MEncoder always shows this messages when encoding mpeg1... I have no idea what it means.

@BP
If you are using avisynth, no filter is used for encoding (you have to select makeavis template). The stackdump seems to be a mencoder problem, today I got one with a captured AVI.
I also don't know about the overflow/DCTs. Maybe a search in mplayer mailing list could clarify.

Not always. It seems these errors are conected with Notch matrix. If you use the default matrix there aren't such errors. Maybe this is the way in which mencoder calculate the dct coefficients regarding the matrix. Well, I can be completely wrong here...

Good idea!! :) Notch-Matrix was fine tuned for Tmpgenc, but MEncoder
may not respond the same way, just as the avisynth avs motion
adaptive script is effecting MEncoder's vbitrate. My file size are
almost perfect when I don't use MA. Now what is MEncoder default
matrix :roll: Guess I'll have to look around :) Oh! 8O DRPEnc has
the default matric and notch-matrix, stay tuned :mrgreen:

Huh, I have read in the man_page something as H.263 quantizers are default, there might be a default matrix, but I have no idea which.

Nope. They're connected to the size of the VBV buffer on MPEG-1 encodes.
Try selecting a KSVCD preset, and encode at the same resolution you tried before, and you shouldn't see the errors.
Try compiling from the command line, with a larger VBV value, if you want MPEG-1.

@vmesquta,

I succesfully encoded a movie (The Big Hit) with Mencode-ME 0.22 MPEG-2 @528x480, and the result is just great :!:
Encoded directly from VOB, using "DVD" filter option in your program.

I'm encoding the audio now. When I get done, I'll post a little sample clip.

vmesquita 04-25-2004 11:47 AM

I'll make the VBV buffer selection automatic for the next release, this should end this issues.

@kwag
It's great to hear that it's working for you :D Please make sure you used Field Operation: None and Framerate 23.976, otherwise there will be synch issues. :wink:

Thank God I had only encoded a small clip, and not the complete movie :!:

When encoding from avi, combo no filter, half vertical (576-->288) results.
When trying from avi, combo AVI, mencodeme hang up. (Error mesagge in log, error stack file create.
When previewing from avi, combo AVI, image not centered, but left sliced to much, in high resolutions only a stretch column of video is showed.

This was completely wrong :oops: I overlooked this message from
MEncoder as follows:

[mpeg1video@ 0x9403380] MPEG1/2 doesnt support 2997/125 fps, there may be AV sync issues

I changed temp.conf -ofps from 23.976 to 24 and the message disappeared,
but a new message appeared many times 1 dup frame found.
Is it possible MEncoder has no support for MPEG-1 23.976 or 23.970 fps
at resolution 352x240. Also, using Notch-Matrix improved the picture
quality and with MEncoder's default matrix, it was worse. I'm begining to believe
MEncoder can not successfully encode mpeg-1, low resolutions, videos
with frame rates other than 25fps (PAL). Oh well, it's back to Tmpgenc and
CQTester for me :evil:

I encoded a mpeg1 from avi file. In combo selection box I selected "NO FILTER". Final resolution was 528*288, but I had select 528*576.
After this I tryed change the combo selection box to AVI. (I suppose it should be when I begin from an avi file). When press encode, mencodeme hang up (it do nothing, just graying encode and preview buttons). Mesagge error in log, related to stack... An error satck file is created in working folder.
If I want to preview with this last settings, image is not centered, but left sliced to much, in high resolutions only a stretch column of video is showed. (like a column of, perhaps, 64 pixels of video at the left, remaining preview screen black)

See you.

bigggt 04-25-2004 03:07 PM

Hi i am having the same problem as Audioslave had 2 pass checked but after 1st pass it just stopped and no 2nd pass

vmesquita 04-25-2004 03:53 PM

@bigggt and audioslave
Maybe preview srewed-up 2pass, I have to check. :wink:

@Prodater64
By "Final resolution was 528*288", you probably mean the resized resolution, right? This is probably correct for a 1:2.35 movie. Actually changing the combo selection to AVI/No filters only change the filters being applied, not the resize process at all.
Are you sure you were not using cropping? Because the crop values does not work in the same way avisynth does. To crop from 720x480 to 704x480, you would have to use Crop width=704 height=0 or =480. Please check this.
Also this configuration is making mencoder dies ("the stackdump"), but this must be related to the video resolution ("the near 64 pixels column).
Please make sure your crop settings are ok. :wink:

You can!
If you put near or under preview button a text box or other selection box where we can select or write seeking position in seconds (I think are seconds), in such a form that it appends at your temp.conf:

seek (int) val [(int) type=1]
(Seek to some place in the movie. Type 0 is a relative seek of +/- val seconds. Type 1 seek to val % in the movie.)

and follwing that, "pause" command.

The initial preview window will go to the seek position and pauses.
Now you can open another mencodeme instance (with others filters) and do the same.
Now you can compare both results.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
mplayer accepts followings keyboard shorcuts (only most usefull mentioned)
Quote:

p or Space Bar: Pause/Continue.
q or ESC: Stop and Exit.
f: Toggle fullscreen/Windowed.
Righ Arrow/Left Arrow: 10 sec forward/backward.

Forgive this newb question but in the new 0.22 update log above where it says Deinterlace via KernalDeint. Does this mean MencoderME can now work with PAL Interlaced sources or is that still out of the question at this time :?:

This Weekend I got still several issues when generating mencoder generated m2vs as DVDs using DVDlabPro latest beta.
Still "gop out of memory" issues and some bad errors which arent named by DVDlabs message window!

So I took my streams and did the whole authoring way using my old friend "MeastroDVD" using Multiple Audiochannels and so on :arrow: Everythig works fine! No errors where dvdlab i.e. was pissed of.

And I thought the m2v got a bug! :lol: Investing many hours to inspect them 8O --- btw the old final release of DVDlab also got those issues.

so lets stick on DVDauthor or MaestroDVD 8)

@ VMesquita

Yep I wanted to give you some DVD sample Templates, they will come to you. I found out that the newest release did let me reach approx. 2500kbit instead of 2000kbit. - but that could be also that the several tested sources let there be a better quantisation?!
As suggested some pots above a change from lmin=1 to lmin=0.3 (or 0.1) gave me more possibility to get to higher HQ DVD avg bitrates.

Zyphon 04-26-2004 05:59 AM

@vmesquita

Yipee! thanks for the info vmesquita I can finally use my Interlaced DVD sources in this nice little GUI, im glad that kerneldeint can deal with my sources.

Thank you for all your hard work in making this tool and helping newbs like me to be able to use Mencoder.

Keep up the good work my friend. :)
