I have encoded (for backup) the same DVD (only the movie to test) using our great "KVCD notch matrix" with two methods:
1) DVB-RB (0.60) + RBOPT(0.15)
2) manual encode
for the same movie lenght, with the same audio, I have noted that the "Q" is not the same, but with manual encode is smaller (in my test, Q25 with DVD-RB and Q19 with manual method).
Is this normal?

Tony.

To find file size I have used KVCDcalc (thanks, Kwag and VMesquita ), added the same audio file size and duration of all content of DVD...

DVD-RB keeps the menus which may consume a large amount of space. There's the difference.

Yes, but in KVCDcalc I have added to the "mux overhead" the total size of the vob file containing all the menu (in my case VTS_01_0.VOB), so the final Q should be approx. the same.
Can be the problem the vob-cell encoding of DVD-RB?
I'll test with other back-up.

Thanks Boulder.

The best thing to do is to report into the mediasize field, the "space available for movie" (or something like this) that DVD-RB reports at the end of the preparing pahse.

I don't think so. Do'nt you keep more audio in DVD-RB than you had in your manual calc ?

I have had a similar experience.

I tested it with one dvd , saved just the movie and prepared and ran prediction with Rb-Opt.

The difference in scripts was i was using kernel bob to deinterlace and bring fpd to 24 manually.

Q value was significantly lower manually.

I keep the same audio in manual encode (two differents DD5.1 language and one DD2.0): in KVCDcalc I add the total size (I have demuxed them for testing) of these audio tracks...
