I am busy with Beauty and the beast, and want a very high qaulity conversion, over 2 cd`s. The movie is 128min long, and I have done sample`s at 704*576 pal 16:9 using the x2 template which is set at CQ70.
The sample looks fairly good but not as good as a movie like MIB2 would look at these settings.

Some advise please,

I don't think the template will make a difference in the end. You may want to read up on the advances being made in the AVISYNTH forum. A new filter called Blockbuster has been developed to add noise to video to get TMPGEnc to do a better job of getting rid of the blocks, more so than increasing the bitrate or CQ level.

As I understand it, in simplified terms: if there is a solid color on screen, TMPGEnc figures that there is no motion, and therefore should remain as a block, like nobody is going to notice. This happens mostly with blacks in regular films, and blockiness will be rampant in animation simply because there are more instances of solid color... especially Disney animation.

The idea behind Blockbuster is, it will add noise to areas that would normally appear as solid blocks, and from there TMPGEnc figures it has to put more effort into encoding that spot. Adding noise to DECREASE noise. It's marvelous if you ask me!

If you aren't using FITCD, I highly recommend learning it and applying the Blockbuster filter. You'll be amazed with the results!

Hi , thanks for the input I am using blockbuster and fluxsmooth, and fitcd,
you`re right the difference in using it is great, the movie is much sharper, it almost looks like a 704*576 movie.

My question is still the same, I have been using filters a while, and playing around with various settings, my problem is this, animation has a lot off info in the video so there is a bit off a difference to a normal movie.

I still get tearing and blocks on high movement, not allot mind you, but I want a better movie.

Try to use a tighter GOP. For Animes this gives you more compression, so there's more room for a higher CQ... Use A GOP of 1,15,3,1,15 with the 704x576 template...
