A mate of mine was going to buy a dvd burner and I warned him
off because hes not very technically minded and I would probably end up doing all his movies for him!!! Anyway I told him that I get a program to fit a movie on one cd with the touch of a button. aka dvd2svcd. However one cd is a big thing for him so I turned back to kvcd.what would you guys reccomend be the best way to get a film on one cd using dvd2svcd?
I have checked about the foroum and have seen mixed results. I was thinking 480x576 mpeg 1, and a wee filter script of mine using temp
smoother & add borders to maximize the movies compressibility.
But since I have been missing, whats the best gop structure and matrix for this sort of situation???? And I know that some movies compress
better then others depending on action, water etc.. but roughly how much could I expect to get on one cd? Also does anybody here know if that filter action smooth is out yet? The idea behind it was to smooth the image only when there was high action because it usually isnt noticable then and also gets rid of blocks.. hmmm maybe I will contact snasgrip on this one.

You'll get the most bang for bits using KVCDx3 MPEG-1. The templates were updated last night. You can try that out, as it includes the new "Notch" matrix and revised GOP. If you want absolutely the best quality, add SansGrip's filters. Read about them in the forum section.

Right first off kwag did u get my mail yet about my still having user problems?

second off.
To make it as one push as possible I am going to add in all the filters I can use like fluxsmooth (sounds very intresting have to look into that one.) and the like to make the film very easiably compressible.

Kwag if you were doing this what would be your "cut off time" I mean since I want to make this very automated I was wondering about where I should start going into 2 cds? Take in mind I will be using heavy filtering and even adding a bit extra border!

Your best bet is to fill a HUGE coffee mug, and read this thread: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2073
There you'll find all the stuff we did, plus many scripts to give you an idea on filters and different combinations tried. Beware, it's a Looooong read

well that is a looooooooooong read! I have seen it before but now I knwo which matrix I am using (the latest) and how and where the filters are going. All I need now is a good gop structure. Dvd2svcd wont let me put in 5283 p frames (thats a lot considering you set max frame in a gop to 24!!) Anyway whats the reccomended gop structure for a low bitrate?

After that I am ready to get encoding.

For DVD2SVCD, use 1-24-2-1-24.
