How do standalone DVD players handle framerate (aka FPS)?
For example, NTSC resolution 352*240 with PAL framerate 25? Is it playable?

Every player leads to a different answer. So just try it on your own standalone.

Some players even read non standard resolutions. For instance I saw someone converting lot of Divx without making any rezising. The resolutions where all differents (640*480,584*352, ...). His standalone takes everything. However, I never saw what happens on the aspect ratio of the image.

Thanks.
I thought that mpeg1 and mpeg2 do not store NTSC, PAL or other tv specs.., so x*y resolution and framerate are independent.
What you mean if the palyer see 352*240 or 480*480 resolution it might enforce NTSC or PAL corresponding framerate?

No, that's the opposite. The framerate is tied to the AC power frequency. NTSC countries are 60Hz, PAL ones are 50Hz.
That means that the framerate is the determining parameter and the player decide to enforce NTSC or PAL according to this, whatever the resolution.

Sounds you are right Agent Smith..
It means if I want to play mixture of NTSC/PAL (in your case SECAM) resolutions and framerates, I need to look for DVD player of capable automatic NTSC/SECAM/PAL picture resolution conversion?

I guess so.

Note: tehre is no SECAM DVD player. All players sold in France are PAL and all the last TV sets are PAL/SECAM. SECAM is only used as TV broadcast standard now.

You should look for a player which does its job, no matter what the food will be. I heared about good compatibilities refering to a Cyberhome 505.
But you have also to be sure if this player also accepts minBitrates less than 400kbit! Cause a setting of min=64kbit also will give you a compression advantage.

Watch around in here, there are many postings refering to player model experiences in case of KVCD/Non-Standard encodings.

I think I should get one CH 505 cause of 85 Euros incl. free shipping at Amazon.de.
Horrible to imagine it if my Mediencom begins doing errors and a next one wouldn't support my minBitrate and mpeg1@480x576 encoded CD-Rs

I do not have this info but it is not relevant : as for "noname" CD-R for instance, the brand on the player is just a sticker put by the shop.

We can find them till the end of the month in the market called "Aldi" (that's an hard discounter market that you perhaps have in Germany too).

If I understand well all your questions, you plan to make KVCD and buy a standalone after, hoping that the KVCD you did will work on it ? Not really a nice idea except if you know someone that have a player, do KVCD, and you want to buy the exact same model.

For instance if we tell you "min 300 - max 2300" is okay for 90% of the players, and you buy one that is in the 10 over percents, you will be very disappointed. You see ?

You can buy a decent dvd player here for the price of 5 dvds with britney.
I am just waiting for this time when you can buy a new car for the price of few litres of petrol.
