after you did mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/fw ...

after you did

mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/fw

have you tried doing

cd /mnt/fw
ls

this will tell you if you have mounted the disk. As for making sure this device is mounted each time you boot...

your mkdir command the error that comes out do not match up. generally all *nix distros have a /mnt directory. Are you sure you didn't type

mkdir /mount/fw

instead of

mkdir /mnt/fw
