If you encoded your captures with a codec that is YUY2 (let say huffmann), then yes, you should use the pixel_type parameter to be sure that the format won't be converted by the codec used on your PC...

No. It means that if you do not force the mode, all commands like Avisource, Mpeg2Source and DirectShowSource will first ask to the codec installed on the PC if it can produce YV12, and use it. Else...

New avisynth produces YV12 output by default. As you don't have any YV12 codec on your PC, this does not work. Windows...
