Divx is 5.05 at least (5.06 exists also I think). Xvid, I don't know the version. For my part I use a huge codec pack that is there (http://ace.subpage.net/)

You can take the "player" package,...

You did nothing wrong except using a codec too old.

Take the last release of Divx and Xvid codecs and that probably solved all your problems.
