By doing this, you always used the DirectShow support of TMPGEnc and a directshow filter installed on your PC that can handle avs without you even knew it (probably ffdshow).

Yes but you can also want to use Moviestacker if you want to drop gripfit plugin (taht gives problem sometimes).
