yes, my player doesn't like 704x576 muxed as vcd, and got the green garbled screen. But muxing with bbmpeg as svcd an burnt with vcdeasy as svcd did the trick. 8)

My player gives green mess when I use a resolution my dvdplayer doesn't like. If you made mpeg1, try muxing and burning as svcd.
