FoxMail has a built-in learning Bayesian filter for spam (besides regular rule based filters).
It also has a very useful "remote" button where it only checks the headers of the messages from the server, and then you can choose what you will delete without ever downloading the messages to your machine. (Pegasus Mail also has this feature)
Also it has a built-in hotmail/yahoo -> pop proxy.
It shows the messages in text mode. There's a button you press to show them as html. So if you think it's safe, you turn the html on, for that message only.
And it's free.
Bad news: it's a chinese software, don't expect any support.
