Yeah, sure! Why get a TBC-capable unit if there isn't a plan to ever use it in connection with anything that would benefit from TBC? That's money down the well...

On topic: OP might as well just...

Do be aware, however, that it is highly dubious that many SECAM decks at all have working TBC for SECAM playback.

Check out this post (and a few prior) for what the manuals say about that:...

I messed up and can't edit my post again. Don't bother buying the Thomson unit unless the seller shows you the user manual, and the user manual doesn't say that the TBC is inactive for SECAM.

Interesting. Those three manuals seem to say that the TBC doesn't work for SECAM or MESECAM tapes. When I googled, the same goes for the HR-S7700MS.

This means that I can only find that the...

Good to know!

I think that there were a couple more JVC suffixes - of which the majority I've seen are posted in the JVC machine list thread. It seems as though they do refer to the colour...

I actually did not see that one when I first searched for it. You will likely not find a much cheaper unit online, to be honest - unless one pops up locally or on Leboncoin.

Ask the seller what...

I can't confirm anything, but the HR-S7600MS (and its rebrand the Thomson Scenium VSH2080 - which is on Ebay at the moment, but quite expensive) and the HR-S8600MS likely also have this...

VCR-wise, If I'm not completely wrong, a few European JVC models (especially the French (?) models with the suffix MS) do seem to support TBC for SECAM(-L) tapes, but not for MESECAM tapes:

Here's...

Excuse the triple (!) post, but I can't seem to edit my post again. It's important to say that the deck played a PAL tape just fine before this issue arose - which, I suspect, means that the head...

I received the VCR but it seems to have a few issues.

At first, the machine was picky with when it wanted to load tapes or reject them just afterwards.

Later, it played an included PAL tape...

Wanted: BrightEye 75

I'm looking for a BrightEye 75. If you have one and would be willing to sell it for a fair price, please do let me know. If you also have an SDI to USB interface, all the better! I'm in Sweden but...

Duly noted. We'll see what happens in the future, but I don't really like the idea of half-arsing anything in any case.

It's looking more and more like a DMR-ES15 or something similar would be a good choice. Thank you! I would most likely have purchased a Datavideo TBC if the price tag wasn't what it is.

On a similar note - excuse me for digressing - is there a single PAL/NTSC TBC unit that could be said to be affordable (or at least consumer-priced) for a consumer like me? I know that it may sound...

There we go. I bought a HR-S7600AM from a Japanese second-hand page for an amount of money (around USD 270 + 130 i shipping). Alea iacta est.

Yeah, I've understood that. I was mostly thinking that the HR-S7600AM is superior in those aspects compared to importing a 120Hz unit.

Yes, I will. I think I'll try to find a cheaper unit. An...

Is the JVC HR-S7600AM a good player? Not having to purchase a stepdown transformer is appealing, so are the multi-system capabilities.

I've found one on a Chinese page for what seems to be about...

Interesting. The first option is definitely an option, and I'll see if I can't get hold of a proper (non-coaxial) NTSC deck sometime.

Yeah... but if I'm getting a NTSC unit, why not just buy a...

Capturing NTSC videos in Europe?

Hello,

I'm in Europe (Sweden) and want to digitize NTSC tapes. I have a JVC HR-7600MS (which apparently is a multi-system unit, although the output appears to be coaxial only - I guess it's a bit...
