I may be one of the few members here with both a Hi8 VCR (EV-S7000) and a camcorder (TRV85). I agree with Lordsmurf that the camcorder is better. I can post some samples later.

Maybe you looked at the video too closely after it was uploaded? Supposedly YouTube re-encodes videos to like 10 combos of resolution, etc. for different devices. I've sometimes found it takes awhile...

I would think not as it usually adds noise. I usually only use the proc amp controls on my TBC to fine tune the brightness/contrast levels, and even then that's only occasionally.
