MPEG Padding Adds More than 100mb to MPEG-2 File?

Hi, I am very new to this, but I thought I give it a try. I ripped lord of the rings with the KDVD (352x576) template into 1 1850Mb file, after cutting the credits 2 900 Mb files (Split with DVTool). After burning with Nero it said 99Minutes, also VCDImager got an BIN file of 1000Mb.
After checking VCDeasy it said that it added 100Mb of Padding cause of non-alligned blocks?
What is this? Can I skip this? I want to put this movie on 2 90 minute CD's!
By the way the Quality was great! (Played excellent in my Lenco DVD-02a )

I'm having the same problem !!!

I've encoded lethal weapon 2 114 min ( 352x240 ) what turns in a 754 meg file, but vcdeasy dont write the damn thing, and if i make the cue/bin file to burn with nero, the filesize gets 850Mb ?

Anyone can help ???

Are you muxing with BBmpeg with MPEG2 settings?
If you are, that's the problem.
Use SVCD settings and uncheck the add scan offsets and align sequence headers.
This way you'll have the smallest image size and no padding.

I don't know about granny, but i didn't used BBMEG, and i'm doing Vcd's.

I really haven't got the point here, cos i made the file using :

Dvdecrypter - DVD2AVI - FitCD - Vdub ( for subtitles ) - Tmpgenc, and, here in this point, i have to use Nero, cos the Vcdeasy tells me that the file ( 754 MB ) is too big.

I guess i'm missing something about the config in VCDEasy, but thanks by your help and attention to this

Hi pacodoni!

I just made some tests not using BBMPEG, and I found that it TMPGEnc also makes VCDEasy add a lot of padding if you use MPEG-2 Program (VBR) as it is in the templates (hey kwag, I think you should give a look at that). If you use MPEG-2 SVCD (VBR), VCDEasy doesn't add any padding.

I encoded 2 samples of 20secs using just TMPG...

MPEG-2 SVCD (VBR):
image created with 3065 sectors [00:40.65]
image size = 7.208.880

MPEG-2 Program (VBR):
image created with 3656 sectors [00:48.56]
image size = 8.598.912

You can see the difference. And it's just a 20sec sample!

Pacodoni, I can't give you much help with VCDs, cause I only do SVCDs (my player doesn't like mpeg1 vbr ).
But just make sure that you set MPEG-1 VCD (non-standard), cause if you use MPEG-1 System (VBR), VCDEasy will add a lot of padding too...

Hi to all !
Muaddib ! - All you say is right ! bbMPEG is adding padding to MPG file if you mux MPG's as MPEG2 instead of SVCD !!!!
VCDeasy is doing the same thing if u use 2048 byte per sector option instead of 2324byte for SVCD .
All encodings we are doing are VBR and they aren't and can't be MPEG2 SYSTEM(program) which is saved for DVD only .
Difference is that VBR flag forces program use 2324 bytes per sector and with SYSTEM prog uses 2048byte per sector . This is simple fact .
Once you figure that u'll be able to avoid padding to u'r MPG files .

Ok, now I used the SVCD Stream from TMPGENv, and indeed VCDEasy doesn't add any padding bytes anymore, but now I am wondering is now TMPGEnc adding the padding bytes. If so do I get larger files when using SVCD Stream them Mpeg2 Program stream. Can't I just burn an Mpeg-2 program stream in SVCD format on a CD and hope my DVD player will just play it, or get TMPGEnc to use the Padding-data for Image information so that the image is enhanced?
Your thoughts about this?

That's very simple !!!
If u'll use TMPG system stream u'll get bigger file coz system stream and program stream are the SAME - Thay have the same flag that forces burner (pc) to use 2048 bytes per sector for writing data on CD instead of 2324 bytes .
U must use SVCD option to get advantage of overburning on CD .
U can burn SYSTEM stream too (and get rid of sound skips if u experience them) and u'll get perfect CD but u'll lose about 100mb of playable space on 80min cd - 700mb to write instead of ~810mb!!! .

I always mux my mpeg-1 files with TMPGenc in "mpeg-1 System" mode
and now, I finnally understand the different betwen "mpeg-1 System" and "non-standard VCD"

I have a test about these different:

m1v 567mb (created with KVCD template by TMPGenc)
mp2 95.3mb (created by TMPGenc in the same time)

mux with TMPGenc in mpeg-1 system mode: 672mb....................File_A
mux with TMPGenc in non-standard video cd mode:671mb..................File_B

then, write them to a vcd seperatly:
File_A's Video CD become 770mb (and Nero can't accdept it as vcd compitable)
File_B's Video CD become 678mb (and Nero accdept it as vcd compitable)

so now, all mpeg-1 files we created with KVCD template, the best way to treat with burn it as a VCD is mux those mpeg-1 files in "non-standard video cd" mode

Seems like you found a solution... but it won't work for me.
Video/Audio files used:
DivX source @512x384, 23.9?? fps, 22 Min 48KHz MP3
Compressed it using ULBR PAL template to:
MPEG1 @352x288, 25fps, 44KHz 128kbit/s MP2
(yes, I let TMPEG encode audio, too)

I mux the files in System and get 80 MB - how it should be. - but neither Nero nor VCDEasy will burn it in 2352 block mode 2.
I mux the files in VideoCD (non-standard) and get 226 MB - how can that be? - with choppy video & sound.

So what is wrong?

For anyone who reads this having the same prob:
I found a hint in another thread that TMPGenc 2.59 might be the prob.
Now I'm doing 2.510

to sort the problem you have to increase forced mux rate untill the problem disappear

mux in bbmpeg with the forced mux rate at "0" (=automatic), that works fine for me!
