Is there a filter to get rid of the "washed out" effect that sometimes occurs on badly encoded SVCDs? Where the colours are greyish and dull and black looks like a dark grey...

Maybe Donald Graft's Tweak would be useful? It's built-in in Avisynth, see the docs which were installed along with AVS.
