Anyone tried encoding without filters if the source is clean? I'm getting very good encodes using 528x480 and 70 cq. I'm only using legalclip(). Just finished encoding Top Gun @73cq and it only took 3hrs 30min.
I have a P4 1.8ghz machine.

Even if the source is clean, I would at least use the trick of "mergechroma(blur( 1.58 ))", because that will let you up the CQ even more, and won't slow down your process or change the quality of your picture. Give it a try

I think filters would always give a slightly better result if anything...even in a clean source they clean up any little artifacts that you don't even notice, allowing just a bit more bitrate to be used for something useful.
