TMPGEnc: Using KDVD Template in TMPGEnc

I encoded files in TMPGenc from DVD2AVI and used new KDVD template to create MPEG2 movie file and video came out kind of distorted(i.e. with vertical lines around objects) This happened even when I used KSVCD template as well. I'm running this on P4, 1.6Mhz, 512MB RAM and GeForce2.
I don't understand what the problem is. I'd appreciate any help.

Sounds like you didn't prepare your source properly.

The KDVD template presumes that the source is 23.97 frames per second. I'll bet yours was at 29.97 fps

In DVD2AVI, under VIDEO/Feild Operation, make sure that "Forced Film" is checked and save your project again.

This will prepare your source @ 23.97 fps. I have done this even when the stats window told me that the video type was NTSC as opposed to pure film or even hybrid.

Only once out of 200 or DVDs that I've archived has this been an issue.

The first time I used Kwags template, I made the same mistake & got the vertical lines too ....

thanks for pointing me DVD2AVI's VIDEO/Feild Operation option, I didn't check "Forced Film"... I'll try it againg with this option.
But in TMPGenc I had 23.97fps and not 29.97 fps

That's right, using the KDVD template, TMPgenc is expecting 23.97. That's why you need to use "Forced Film" in DVD2AVI.

Thanx for the help on this one. I was wondering why I am getting this though?
When I load a d2v file into tmpgenc using KDVD-352x480-Half-D1-_NTSC_.mcf The only setting I change is whether or not it is 4:3 or 16:9.
Whenever I choose 16:9 I get bars accross the sides of the encoded video. Even if it 16:9. But when I encode to 4:3 it streches the video and pixelates. Either setting is not acceptable but I don't know what I am doing wrong. 4:3 videos give me no problems.
Please help
