I downloaded a divx file of a movie (????) with intention of coverting to 2 kvcd's using the 352x240 resolution (because my standalone only seems to play this resolution of kvcd's correctly)..

I extracted the wav in virtualdub and converted from ac3 to mp2 using headache, and then loaded it as the audio source in tmpge. (I KNOW - you suggest muxing separately, but currently, it is more understandable for me to do it this way.)

I used 'center custom size' in tmpge based on the settings in fitcd, but did not frameserve from fit cd, instead I just loaded video source with the source avi.

I encoded cq 2500 max at 81%

The source was very good but it was a screener copy and every 20 minutes or so it would scroll the line of print along the bottom of the screen - and since it is something I find to be very distracting, I decided to crop those areas, (still holding the 352 x 158 pixel resolution ) - and then, upon compleation, joining all the separate files back together into a single mpeg..

Now, here's where things got weird..

Each encoded section from the same avi required that I use the audio gap correct to keep the audio in sync, and evry section required vastly different settings.. for example:

1. Frames 0 to 12106 - audio gap correct of (-1200)
2. Frames 12107 to 33009 - audio gap correct of (-1000)
3. Frames 33010 to 33990 - audio gap correct of (-600)
4. Frames 33991 to 54549 - audio gap correct of (-580)
5. Frames 54550 to 55574 - audio gap correct of (-400)
6. Frames 55575 to 77109 - audio gap correct of (-40)
7. Frames 77110 to 78075 - audio gap correct of (+ 420)
8. Frames 78076 to 97877 - audio gap correct of (+620)

(I quit keeping record of it after this point, but the above shows about 2/3 of the first cd)

Using TMPGE's 'merge & cut', I put them all back together into a single file and the results worked perfectly showing absolutely no indications that it originated from about 12 different files. The video and audio plays in perfect sync, and there is no jumps or skips where the files were joined.

But it was a very tedious process which I do not intend on going through again - but the question is:

Why was there such a flucuation in the audio gap of each section of the original single source avi?

U probably have VBR AC3 file .
If u want perfect sinck u have to convert AC3 VBR to MP2 CBR .
Headac3he can manage it .
If Headac3he can't solve the prob than try to extract with VDub CBR wav file with 44100kbps and convert it to MP2 .
If VDub can't decode than try to download VDubMod and extract wav as CBR 44100kbps .
At last u just load to TMPGenc your avi and encode as MP2 .
THIS IS SHURE THING !!!
Quality is not perfect but good enough with 128-160kbps .
Have a fun

Yes, it was a ac3 audio..
On my second cd I converted only the video in tmpge and them muxed the audio AFTER in tmpge

It was alot less trouble this way and the audio stayed in sync.

I am slowly learning........
