KVCD: Templates and KVCD Predictor?

Kwag,

A couple of questions on your templates and KVCD Predictor. If your 352x240 Templates (plus and LBR) were designed to accommodate up to 120 min as is, why would I have to run through the Predictor? I have done three or four movies of various lengths from 86 min up to 2 hr 20 min by running through FidCD, this was to insure the right Aspect Ratio, I did not check any of the filters in FitCD, used the resulting AVS script, processed with TMPGEnc. I am completely satisfied with the end results and seem to have a lot of available space left. I guess I could increases the CQ or the bitrate up to 2500 from the basic 1800, depending on the movie. So why and at what point would I make the discussion to use the Predictor? If processing an original RIP, what would be the recommend filters if the RIP is in excellent condition and why would I use them? Great job by everyone on teh Templats, Predictor, Filters etc.....

Hi Bud,

The times on each template are really a "suggested" value. The original templates, when there was no prediction, had a CQ value that would give an average time per CD. Times have changed

. The suggested play times in the templates is just there as a reference. What really defines the play time on each template is the MIN and MAX bit rates and the resolution. For example, on the LBR, MAX is set to 1,150Kbps. This will allow longer play time than the regular 352x240 which is set to MAX=1,800. So the rated times are based on those parameters. But in reality, I have been encoding 2+ hours with KVCDx3 with a MAX of 2,500

. So the LBR could probably do ~4 hours

. But I'll let people find that out, and I'll just say it's a 180 minute template

I strongly suggest the use of prediction from now on, because it maximizes quality and disk space. Even if the rip is in excelent condition, I suggest some of SansGrip's filters. For 352x240 resolutions, Blockbuster is great to get rid of low frequency (DCT) dancing blocks on dark areas. You should also use FluxSmooth. If you really want to push quality and space, then try FaeryDust + Convolution3D filters.
